I just took mine to the dealer for the 2nd time. I love the car just hope they can fix it. Really stinks to pay in cash for a new car and take it in 5 times within 2 months...
Got a 2024 BMW X5 50e with I believe every possible option available. Really like it. |

How does this work though? I'm begin told that BMW does the buyback and that's completely separate from purchasing a replacement from the dealer. Also, does your finance paperwork just get updated with the new VIN or is a new agreement drawn up at whatever the current rates and incentives are?

The way I see it is that they buy your old car in X amount and you buy the new one with that money. How they manage internally the loss or who pays for that, I don't know. Maybe they even made money with the trade, I mean there are no 50e's in the market and they re-sold the old one in about a week. They just used one of their factory allocations to replace my car.

Been lurking here for a while, recently took possession of a new 50e two weeks ago (late Feb delivery, Jan build). Less than 120km in and a yellow CEL popped up. No information in the vehicle status and I don't have the device to check the error code myself, so taking to dealership next week. Will check tomorrow to see if it clears itself too...

Had 4-5 orange CEL instances that came and went on their own after driving a couple of times. Even an app update or full system update brings CEL as a way of notifying (like Windows update yellow circle or warning triangle). Seems annoying though as it just stresses me out every time it pops up and my eyes keep going towards it, expecting it to go away soon.
BUT this time it is sticking for 3 days now with 2700miles on the car. Roadside assistance couldn't see it at their end and asked me to go to the dealer. Took a service appointment for next week. Hope it only needs the standard 45 second reboot to clear it up and nothing is seriously wrong. |

They know exactly what is going on but play dumb to make it seem there are not widespread issues.

Just got a text saying they replaced the faulty expansion valve. They told me it was a high voltage issue. I don't know cars well but that seems like 2 separate things?

I'm going to spare you the pleasure of reading this whole thread. The expansion valve and the high voltage issue are the same. The valve gets stuck and the cooling system for the high voltage battery could not work as intended because the battery needs a temperature range to operate and charge. Most of the CEL's on the 50e's come from this issue.

For $95k you would expect less issues, in my personal opinion. |

I would expect fewer issues on a $25k vehicle. The error rate is astronomical, not sure I have ever run across a vehicle with such a level of issues. Perhaps:

Good news: no issues for four weeks since SME replacement.
Bad news: someone hit it while it was parked legally on a street last night. You haven’t lived until you have uniformed officers walk into a restaurant calling your name during dinner. The driver fortunately had insurance. Left front control arm broken, air bladder for left front wheel shot, left side of car damaged almost full length, front bumper damaged, and who knows what else underneath. It was quite an adventure getting it onto a flatbed with one wheel cocked to the side. The insurance adjuster gets her first look tomorrow. Enterprise gave me a 2023 45e with real buttons! So begins the latest episode……. |
