Anyone tried to DIY AC air-cooled glovebox?
I remember in some vehicle, the glove box could be used as a cooler. The concept is very simple - it simply redirects some cooled air from AC to the glove box. There might be a knob controlling how much cold air goes into the glove box. Obviously, it only works when you turns on the AC to blow cold air. (e.g. )
I do not think I see this from BMW vehicles. I am wondering if anyone on the forum has researched it there could be a simple and elegant DIY path for this? |

Interesting thought. Someone with the schematics for the HVAC system could tell you for sure, but I think it would be more trouble than it’s worth… like taking apart your dash to route an hvac branch into the glove and wiring a controller. The glovebox itself is where the cabin air filters are housed and a lot of wiring, so probably not a lot of room to cut yourself a vent. And because it’s a BMW, you’ll probably throw a code or two for your efforts and be forced to return it to stock.

I understand the filters are accessible from below the glovebox like all BMW’s, but what I am meaning to convey is the cabin air filters are housed behind the back of the glovebox in such a way that they block a potential pathway to route an HVAC line.

Had the wireless tray in my '20 M550i(sucked),didn't have one on my '22 X3MC,and have one in the X5MC. I placed the phone(w OtterBox cover)on the tray only to pick up the phone and drop it due to it being so hot at the end of my 1hr trip. Instantly recalled why I did not like it on the M550. And the charge went from 72% to 73% in that 1 hour trip,so massive fail in '24 which is exactly the same fail from my '20 M550. Good job BMW!!!

Today's glove boxes are so small and oddly shaped. I imagine you could get maybe 2 cans of ̷b̷e̷e̷r̷ something in there.

My f06 & f15 both have 4 zone AC…and when the rear AC is running…the duct running below the center console keeps that area much cooler than normal…similar to a chill box. If I’m on a long road trip and I’m using my cell phone plugged into the USB port…the phone is cool to the touch when I open the center console to remove it.
Perhaps it’s similar on the G05?
