Yes, it will show some speed traps, mostly fixed speed. It does not actively detect those but rather uses a crowd-sourced database. I didn't renew my subscription and use Waze instead which is much more accurate/encompassing.

It is, granted, not a huge amount of money. However, - It provides very little value to me, personally, and... - I HATE (vehemently, viscerally, etc.) the subscription services trend for vehicles (and most other items), personally, and would not purchase this from BMW even if it did have huge value to me, if I could get it independently. I refuse to encourage this trend with my wallet. But that's just me.

I use Apple Maps when looking for guidance to an unknown address, it also provides for fixed speed and red light cameras. However you have to use maps for that to work. BMW’s version will alert you without having to use guidance, hence why I subscribe.

You don't want to just use Carplay or Android Auto?

Not that we have seen. That will probably be available though in iD9. I use Waze for notifications through CarPlay.

Totally agree on it being the better app. I think you just have to use it through CP or AA. I never ever use the stock nav unless its one of the rare times where my phone doesn't connect.

I have found that I can run Waze via Carplay in the background and have the BMW map on the display. This is nice because the BMW map looks more integrated with the rest of the display and I can still get alerts via Waze through the audio system.

Yeah, Waze maps don't show on HUD or in center dashboard display. Running Waze in the background is great for police and road alert notifications in conjunction with the BMW visual maps in HUD and center display. Doing this, negates the need to pay for BMW's traffic cam service which is spotty at best.

I have it. Worth it only if you drive in areas the typically have fixed installed traffic or speed cameras. You’ll know if your town/county is into this already. Otherwise yes it works but only on well established install sites. There were a few newly installed stations around my town and the BMW still won’t pick them up. But for 6 cents (USD) a day why not try it.

I did a 1mo trial and found it completely useless where I am in CA. I passed so many traffic cameras and not once did I receive a notification. I had to check if the system was active, which is was the entire time. So make sure your jurisdiction permits the use of this technology before buying!
