Yes, same observation here. The auto activation need to be very close the obstacle, too close for comfort for me. So I always have to manually activate. Comparing to my two previous SUV, MDX and QX60, they both did better in this aspect. More earlier and more consistent activation.

This morning I pulled into a parking garage and was worried about hitting the barrier in front of me, so I stopped as soon as the beeping really “freaked out”. I was still more than 18” from the barrier. My old M3 starts beeping when I’m about 36” away yet, which seems too soon.

Haven’t been impressed with the Asian manufacturers implementation of PDC. My kid’s Honda Ridgeline basically just has two levels of alert—“none” or “totally freaking out”.

Interesting....today I was messing around with my X and when finished, I did an iDrive reset, the long version. Then I took it out for a test drive and when driving back in the garage, the auto PDC screen popped up just as I got to the garage pad and displayed as it's supposed to. Will have to see if it stays set that way but it was sure nice to have the auto feature back, even for just one time

If you have an F15 X5…do you have the Auto PDC selected to activate?

Auto PDC is selectable in iDrive (on the f15)…you can find it under SETTINGS >>> PARKING. If the box isn’t checked…then auto PDC will not activate.

note that you posted in the G05 forum, not the F15 forum. the iDrive menus are different, but Qsilver7 was kind enough to show you where to enable auto activation of the PDC if you haven’t already done so. if that’s already activated, then further troubleshooting of software and/or hardware may be necessary

Same with mine. I mean, real close. So close that it barely does any good. One area in which the BMW implementation of a feature lags its competitors

Mine is also so close to the object before it's activated. I setup two-fingers gesture control to active parking camera. At least I still can focus on the front view instead of looking for parking camera button while maneuvering on tight space.

my left front bumper is slightly tucked behind one corner of my garage. as soon as I put my car in gear, the PDC immediately activates. there’s at least 2 feet of space (if not more)

Same here, when mine activates I'm dangerously close to hitting a cabinet in front of the car in my garage. So one time when it first activated I got out to have a eyeball look and found a solid couple of feet, ok I felt a little better but that's still closer than I'm comfortable with when sitting in the drivers seat and can't see in front of the car.

I've sometimes wondered if the activation is speed related so if I were pulling into the garage faster would it come on sooner? I'm not about to find out deliberately Still, it's just turning on a camera so why not turn it on sooner? That's why I played around with having it turn on via GPS as soon as I entered by driveway apron, but alas, that was far to inconsistent to rely one so I resorted to a manual push of the button when I want it. .. .. and to quote a somewhat famous rock band, now "I've got blisters on me fingers"

My sonar PDC complete fail. They won't detect anything at all. Good that I still have 360 camera. I am taking it into this Friday for 2nd annual oil change + this PDC failure. Will see what happen.
