1 Year Oil Change

Still can’t figure this out. I’ve had a bunch of Ms that require service at 1,200 miles which obviously includes oil change. The recommended oil change interval after tbat is one year/10,000 or sooner if the car requests it. For some reason that 1,200 oil change doesn’t count in that timeline. Happens every time. I got my 1,200 service last December but the app and the dealer say my next due date is August which is a year from what I got the car.

Anyone know why?

It’s a big oil conspiracy.

10k that’s is just mind blowing. If I were you I would change it now and then do it every 3/5k. I have changed mine at ~2k the plan to change at every 3/5k

I don’t think I’ve ever done 10,000 miles before the year was up. I leave my trust in the German engineers. No more. No less. Also, I trade them in after 15,000-20,000 miles but always with clean service records.

Trust in engineers is generally well-placed, but when their decisions are filtered by bean counters and insatiable profit mongers, not so much.

It recalculates based on how you drive, I seen the number change from month to month, so I just trust whatever the car tells me. I’m sure BMW has done their research, if an oil change is really needed before the computer tells you to do and it causes harm to the car from not doing it, they would have a lawsuit on hand for misleading the customer with their recommended values.. especially in the US, everyone is lawsuit trigger happy

That's a standard oil change interval with modern oils. These motors take like 2x the oil that most small lock v8s take, and they can go 10k miles on an oil change no issue.

I don’t think I have put 10k miles on a car in even 4 years time. I only drive around 2500 miles a year, so I just do the yearly oil changes.

Does anyone on here use the oils additives that are supposed to protect the engine?

Do you mean products like Ceratech from liqui moly? I have used it in many cars including turbocharged ones, with good results.

But BMW forbids it and says it might void warranty if found.

When you can get your oil and filter from FCP Euro and basically pay the cost of shipping the oil back its almost free. Makes no sense not to change it every 5k or so. Unless you don't have a place or confidence to do it.

Why? Where does 5k come from if BMW recommends 10k?. There’s a 100 things I’d rather be doing then changing my oil when it’s not required.

I thought I saw a Blackstone oil analysis here that showed enough breakdown to warrant an oil change at 5700 miles on F95s. Or maybe it was another forum.
