Tire Size Change From OEM - 295/40/21 - 315/35/22

I am wondering if it is ok to run the referenced size tires on the OEM wheels? Not sure I want to have two sets of tires and/or wheels to run for the winter and up here in MA I can't run summers year round. Thanks.

What are your OEM wheel specs?

Honestly, having two sets of wheels is the best way to go. You put less wear on your sets, while the initial cost is higher, the longer term benefits are worth the costs. Doing twice a year dismounting, rebalancing and mounting, added with the small risk of nicks to the wheels in this is one piece. Then finding and sourcing winter tires in the staggered set up will be pricy and staggered setups in winter are less effective than a squared set up.

Tire Rack and similar sites have decent looking 20" wheels and when coupled with tires you get a pretty great deal for mounting and warranty, etc. Costco and others are similar.

I have the stock wheels (21x10.5; 22x11.5) with the 295/35/21 - 315/30/22 tires.

That's my plan. I'm gonna try a +1 aspect ratio on all corners this winter: 295/40/21 fronts and 315/35/22 out back on Conti DWS06's. There are several threads on this same topic. Check out these two:

Thanks that's really helpful. I see some folks mention concerns about the tire size if the car is dropped but not sure any of them actually have dropped cars. I wonder if it would be a problem running this side on MSS springs?

I'm running that exact size right now with MSS adjustable lowering springs and Continental DWS 06 All Season tires. I bought these direct from the BMW dealership and they confirmed that this will not be an issue for the AWD system or crankshaft.
Due to the slightly higher sidewall I was actually thinking of switching back to the oem size with all seasons, however they couldn't find a single option! You can find Pirellis in the rear size, but not the front. You can find Continental in the front size, but not the rear. It's ridiculous!
I've gotten used to the sidewall and have no complaints about the tires.
I realize there is a lot of negative comments about all seasons, but in the Midwest it's hard not to go with this option. I simply got tired of having 2 sets of tires, paying for storage and then to swap them out twice a year.
I don't push my X5MC to the limit, so the handling loss is not noticeable during day to day driving.
Just my opinion

really does look good thanks for sharing. i did speak with Tom over at Vibe and he mentioned that they would not recommend the circumference on this set and it would affect the drivetrain so very interesting that BMW said it was ok. with the amount of money I have spent on modding I kind of would prefer to just have all seasons rather than need to have two wheel sets for winter/summer in MA.

The fact that you purchased 295/40/21 - 315/35/22 size tires direct from the BMW dealership and they confirmed that this will not be an issue for the AWD system or crankshaft is awesome to know as there's much debate about the +1 inch height but nobody seemed to know for sure. Thanks for sharing, ride looks good and comfy!

I read your post and just went with the exact same setup. I did not lower my X5MC so I didn't go with spacers. Huge improvement in ride quality! One question - what tire pressure are you running? Would it be safe to just subtract 1-2 PSI from what door sticker recommends?

I'm running the psi a few lbs lower and it has been just fine, and really like the ride quality.
