X5 M50i performance options

Hello all,

I have a 2021 x5 m50i with a dinan axleback and racechip piggyback. Car sounds great on start and has some pops and light burbles when I let off the gas. I'm looking for more intake noise without spending 3k on eventuri and also trying to figure out what's up with the exhaust flaps. I hear after 40mph they open but I want to either control them or just have them open all the time. What are your opinions? Open to anything.

Thank you

Do a search, there are a few ways to get the flaps to stay open all the time.

You could pull the fuse that controls the flaps when they’re open.

I did the more risky move. Cold start, jump underneath the rear, and quickly unplug the actuator modules. To do this, it is best to remove the rear undertrays (super easy) on each side. This will make it much easier to quickly unplug. Had it like this for two years and sounded great. Recently plugged them back in because I like a more quiet ride now and then.

I've got a full exhaust system arriving in a couple of weeks so that will change a bit. I tried to do the DINAN setup you appear to have but shop wanted to cut away at the rear exhaust trim. Curious to see what yours looks and sounds like.

If you want more intake noise you really need to open up the exhaust to allow those turbos to “Breathe”. With hi high flow cats or downpipes along with H/X-Pipe with open flapped exhaust or muffler delete will allow those turbos to whistle on intake since they can essentially breathe more efficiently.

Unplugging the actuator does not open the valve fully, only keeps the valve tilted at the same angle that you’d get when car is in sport plus, but now is permanent on every drive mode. See this photo showing the pins rotation is limited by the bracket. The aftermarket exhaust comes with a different bracket and a spiral spring instead of the U pin. There’s no restriction with the spring when the actuator sends the movement to the axles so the rotation can be performed to the end, which means valve opens fully.

In the X5M forum, someone snaked into the exhaust pipe with a camera and confirmed the angle of the pin shown in the previous photo does indeed open the valve all the way. But it’s sad that I thought it still sounded weak.

SmurfG82 do you have any exhaust clips of your car? I have a 2023 and have been looking for exhausts but options are so limited. Haven’t heard the dinan one
