would 275 40 22 be ok?
275 40 22 on own rims be ok on a regular x5 (non M) that runs the 20 inch size from factory? I have no idea what these numbers mean but it looks to me answer is no?

Are you asking if you can put a 275/40R22 tire on your stock 20"s? You definitely won't be able to do that. Your wheels have a 20" diameter, the 275/40 has a 22" diameter, so they will be too large.

so does that mean I can only stay at 20 inch tire and not larger to ensure the speedometer/odo stay accurate?

OEM-wise, the G05 X5 can run 19, 20, 21 and 22-inch wheels. (there’s actually a few running 23”!) the engineers have determined the specific tire sizes for those wheel sizes as they relate to proper vehicle load, speed, range, etc. these are the “OEM” sizes for the G05. referring to your owner’s manual, you will see 275/40R22 is not OEM size; it’s 3% larger than OEM, thus the inaccurate speedo/odo. go too large, then you’ll be dealing with that plus the potential for rubbing and/or suspension component interferences OEM 19” tire size is 265/50R19 OEM 20” tire size is 275/45R20 OEM 21” tire size is 275/40R21 OEM 22” tire size is 275/35R22 **note that staggered sizes are different between front and back. I first had 21” staggered then switched to 20” squared setup. OEM rolling circumference was maintained, but the sidewall height increased because of the smaller wheel size. (as the wheel size changes, the sidewall height changes when the rolling circumference stays the same.) |

so stock size is 275/35R22.... 315/30R22... a consensus has been made here... and many have decided to use bigger tires... one option is 285/40R22 front and 325/35R22 rear... yess they are too big but they fit.. to be sure you should run a 275/40R22 front and a 315/35R22 rear.... what matters is that yo keep the diference in rolling resistance between front and rear of 1% not bigger... and the transfercase will be finee |
