ISTA+

I have been lurking in the shadows since I bought my '19 X5 and am now looking for some help/advice. I wanted to do a full drivetrain service and have learned I need ISTA+ to fully service the transfer case. I have found many downloads that don't work and was wondering if/where there are some that do.

Thanks,
Nick

Are you trying to download free versions? There are numerous sites that sell licenses for ISTA and provide download access to their shared drives. They will also provide installation support and troubleshooting on your laptop. The free versions are fine but be prepared to invest a lot of time into troubleshooting and research before you even get to doing the actual drivetrain service work. By the way, licenses cost about $90-160 year from online vendors with regular updates as BMW releases them.

Yeah, he can provide a bit of an older version 4.39.2x (older license version) which would be fine for service functions. Definitely won't be newer version of firmware though.

Thank for the help, I sent a message to the member above. I had purchased from a vendor but something seemed off halfway through the process. I have the programs for other manufacturers, and it seems BMW is slightly different in how you can obtain the digital tools you need to work on your own vehicle.

Thanks,
Nick

That version will be fine for what you want. G05 was supported many versions behind that. 4.39.x is from 11/2022 and your G05 is a 2019. Start there and then once you get familiar, then you can try some of the newer versions with license or even try a "preactivated" version. Unless you buy a license, it's going to require some hacking around to get it to work and if you don't really know what you're doing, you'll have no idea what or why it's not working or how to fix it.

Hi

Thanks for the response. I'm pretty familiar already with ISTA and INPA etc as I had old versions for playing around with a number of E53's I had (and the vagaries of air suspension lol).... and yes getting it configured was a pain on an old windows laptop...

I'm happy to buy a licence as I now have a 2021 X5 and am about to buy an X7 also.... I'm just looking for a version that doesn't come with malware....

Thanks again....

You might want to consider joining the cartechnology forum. Just Google it. There is a "donation" to join but it's well worth it and the BMW forum over there has great support around ISTA and marketplace to buy a license plus updates to ISTA are posted pretty much monthly as the come down from BMW ... at the same interval as dealers receive them.

Hello

Are you present on that forum? I've joined but can't seem to get anyone to answer a PM or basic questions... (I figure it's because I have only just joined)...

Yes, same username. What were you looking for? People aren't going to respond to PM's for basic questions, unless you are looking to buy something.
