2024 X5 M60i winter tires

Have the 21" offset w/PremiumContact 6 SSR tires. Live in SW Michigan where we have all types of winter. Looking to get winter tires.

Inclined to get 4-20"x9" wheels (satin black 883's - appear to fit) and something like Pirelli Scorpion Winter or Michelin Pilot Alpin tires. Not cheap, but seems easier to have full wheels swapped then just the rubber, would use winter tires for at least 4 months a year prolonging summer tires.

Welcome any feedback or recommendations. First time I've dealt with this.

Would appreciate any feedback. Best or smart/safe approaches to drive X5 M60I in wintery conditions?

Went to the dealer parts department today for advice. Interestingly there were no less than 30 sets of used wheels/tires stacked up in the service entrance bay for customer fall swaps. Took 30 minutes and them calling BMW parts HQ to determine they don't have any recommendations yet for 20" winter wheel/tire combo's for 2024 X5 m60i's. Suggested I check back in a couple weeks.

I realize they are only going to recommend something they have available as new through parts.

Was tempted to find some BMW 20" take-offs online. Many sellers assuring various models fit. I don't think I'm brave enough to go that route.

Did you try building a set on tire rack or discount tire? I have had spare winter wheels/tires on all of my recent vehicles and I swap them out myself each spring and fall. Stock BMW prices for winter wheels are twice as much and offer no advantage except they say BMW on them.

Looked but wasn't considering off-branded wheels. Figure I'm nearly $100k into the car, might as well spring for BMW wheels.

Should mention I bought BMW winter floor mats.

I don't have any BMW clothes.

Winter wheels don't need to be pretty, they need to get you through the snow. Hell I've run plain black steel rims with dedicated winter tires and they look better than much more expensive stuff. I've had Drag specialties wheels for years in the salty snow and they still look good.

I bought Tuxmats, and I don't wear clothes that have brand names on them

If I'm going to be a snob it's going to be about coffee or running shoes, no one cares about cars.

Still trying to source BMW winter tire setup.

Dealer update today: BMW paperwork just came out for 2024 winter tire setups. The only option for my vehicle is a 21" 741M staggered. I mentioned that seems strange since the base wheels on the car are 20" 740M's (maybe it's a '25 vs '24 thing?). Parts department is going to look into it for me.

I'm in similar situation. Mine is a MY24 with 22" wheels. It looks like my only option is the 742M, but I can only find fronts. Fortunately, where I am, winter comes late and is short.

I too called the dealer and they said the 21" staggered tires are the only ones which would work. I am wondering if anyone has the 748M 20" Black Winter Wheel/Tire - 9x20 Part #36-11-2-462-595.

I was looking at a few BMW part websites and a few stated these fit the 2024 M60i (screenshot of one is attached). Trying to figure out what has changed wheel and hub wise for 2025. Maybe the parts data isn't updated properly

I have a set of 748M's being delivered tomorrow and I also have a 2025 model year M60i. I plan on putting them on the vehicle Friday and will report back for you.

I don't anticipate any issues with fit as there are no differences between the 24 and 25 model year M60i's.

Winter set-up experience...

Hi, I went through the same exercise with my '24 M60i X5 tha came with the 21" staggered set as well.

Ultimately, I went with a set square set of 20" Style 738 OEM BMW wheels I bought from a member herein. I wanted more sidewall thickness for pothole protection versus the 21" option. Road are not great here in the winter.

I added Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 SUV winter performance tires size 275/45 R20 I ordered at Costco. They did the install on the BMW 738 (loose) wheels for me. I did the actual wheel swap when the temps dropped below 50 degrees for good.

The 20" 738 wheel package clears the front brakes with a little room to spare. Zero interferences. Just difficult to clean the inner wheel drums in the one spot because you can't get a brush behind the large front calipers and the inside diameter of the wheel in that one spot.

Driving wise, the tires stick to cold roads very well and perform as advertised for wet and dry performance handling and braking. No snow last summer here in NJ so can't attest to the snow performance. The ride is smooth and the noise was only very slightly more noticeable than the OEM Summer Pirelli RFT setup.

I ran them from November to late March without issue. Great set up so for my winter purposes.

As good as they are I still appreciated having the summer staggered setup back on when spring arrived.

I wanted to reply because others herein helped me when I was asking the same questions about a winter setup. I hope this helps you as well.

Good luck.

You can order a new M60i with 20s in a squared setup using the 740M wheels. I don't think the wheel specs have changed from '24 to '25.

The 748's are my preference. Great to see them on the vehicle. Thanks for sharing.

My local BMW dealer parts department continues to refuse to accept anything but a certain set of 21" 741m staggered wheels will fit. He refers to a table on a piece of paper.

I called the nearest unrelated BMW dealer. The came back with same answer and admit while it can have a 20" option from factory that only the 21" staggered winter wheels are approved in my case and using square 20's could void the warranty.

I was never one to accept a rule as an answer if it doesn't make sense. BMW part's departments don't seem to live with that burden.

I'm going to go beat my head against the wall.

While I appreciate the assurances from others here, I don't think its in my best interest to deviate from what my dealers will support.

That's so bizarre; just north of you in Ontario...dealer told me 21" 741s weren't available even though on bmw.ca you can build an x5 m60 with the 21" winter tires. So I am going with 20" 748s like the picture that was posted earlier in the thread. I would have preferred the bigger, wider rears that the 21"s offered but we can't seem to get them.
