So having read these threads BMW has a massive issue with AC and specifically evaporators yet they bury them so 20 hours of labor are required and the front of the car needs to be removed. I'm amazed this hasn't led to class action. If BMW North America doesn't cough up I will either look into taking action or I will sell it on online used site. VERY disappointed in this X5, 2 years of computer problems, never seen anything so inconsistent.

Add me to the list of victims! 7k quote to replace evaporator; AC doesn’t run as cold anymore; multiple attempts to repair leaks and recharging only to come to this conclusion; talking to corporate for some assistance

So is this caused by a leak?

I'm just using my cheapness in case this happens to me. $7K is steep

Can I just refill it using one of those AC repair kits every couple of weeks?

I did this DIY late in 2023. I got pretty good at it and did it on my friend’s G30. It’s the same process. It’s not as scary as it looks—these dashboards are apparently designed to be taken apart, because I didn’t have any issues with rattles on either job.

Any update from BMW on this? I just bought a 2020 X5 M50i about 6 weeks ago. It was CPO, but the warranty ran out while the car was on the lot.

I think the AC has been working, but had our first really hot day yesterday and the air is coming out lukewarm. I went into the menu and turned it all the way to blue and still warm/ambient temp.

Only 35K miles. I was going to look into a third party warranty, but hadn’t got around to it.

Unfortunately I bought it from a dealer 200 miles away, so I’d go to my local dealer.

I paid ~$49K for the car, so I’m not trading it in as I’ll probably lose $7K on it anyway.

I’ve got a late 2021 M50i and aircon has stopped working - just hot air and hissing sound coming out when turn on, so I’m assuming it’s a leak.

Australia moved to a 5yr warranty the year after I bought mine (3yrs) and it’s currently 4months out of warranty. But we have good consumer protection laws here so I’ll be expecting it to be covered - I def won’t be paying thousands of dollars for a car just over 3yrs old.

Going into the service centre next week so will find out for sure then. The pictures of whole dash removal is scary

Bought G05 few mos ago from Mercedes Fletcher J, barely driven it(after 3 days of buying AC started blowing hot), because after 2 inde mechanic visits & $750 later,I finally took to bmw dealer, was initially told 1100 to swap leaking txv valve, day later was quoted a bill for $9K to repair a leaking evaporator behind dash. I went back to inde told them, waiting for them to get back to me, because I said I want a deal because their supposed repair never fixed anything,& mileage backs that up.

I am now going to buy another used car, maybe a Mercedes or a newer x5 if this issue is fixed on newer years than mine? I have money to buy whatever I want cash but I bought my G05 2019 with high miles because I barely drive few times a month to VA. I had been on lookout for this issue before buying used, but I am certain dealer scammed me by recharging freon right before I went to dealership because I had already submitted offer beforehand & just wanted to make sure everything works I told him beforehand. Anyone else who can give any advice, experience etc. would be appreciated too.

BMW service dept offers occasional Goodwill for vehicles. Meaning they will cover full/partial price of the repair service needed. Quite a few of us on this forum has been lucky to get a service good-willed
