To clarify some of the questions raised - both key fobs are kept in doors so are at room temp and are only outside for ~30 secs before trying to open the car, and are within 4ft of the car. Both fobs behave the same and are 9 months old. If the temperature is at or below 0 deg C, they won't work - I still need some more anecdotal evidence before I go back to the dealer.

I'm kind of both glad and disappointed that no one else appears to have this issue, if you know what I mean
Very frustrating I'm sure. Personally I don't believe there's anything wrong with the key fobs, especially since the car reacts to both the same way but did you replace the fob batteries? This is like just a checklist to eliminate things as you go along or to be able to tell the dealer what you did to try and isolate the issue.

When you walk out to the car and use the fob and it doesn't work, right there at that moment did you also try all the other buttons on the fob to see if any of them work. Once again, this is to try and zero in on the culprit. The car is full of remotely loaded modules, they're in there roof, in the rear, in the front, on the sides, you name it, you got plenty of them spread about the car. Let me know and I'll have a look at a diagram I have of module location/funtion

Did not think to try that one! Can't wait for the next cold day I expect I'll be able to feedback tomorrow...

Plus they are having the issue at 0c which is just the freezing point and not very cold. -50c is a whole diferent category where I would expect some weird stuff to happen. The coldest I have had my 50e at is -30c and everything was normal other than it starting the ice rt away.

...the next cold day was a pleasant +3 deg C and the fobs wouldn't work, nothing, nada, no buttons at all. Fortunately the app works, yey. Upside is that my dealer is on it and has arranged collection, loaner, and a software update - huh? go figure? I'd like to think that it could be that simple but, I am sceptical

Since you mentioned more than one fob wouldn't work, it makes me suspect the receiver module for the fob-signal in the car. Let us know what did it turn out to be after it's fixed.
