2021 X5 45e Sport mode changed?

Hello,
I like to use Sport Mode as I approach a highway, so that the engine has a chance to warm up before I'm accelerating hard. I also like to use it as a way to manage my battery usage--I'll drive in Sport Mode to preserve battery power on the highway, and switch back to electric driving on surface routes. However, I've recently noticed a change in how this mode operates. Instead of providing constant ICE power, it's now acting like the Hybrid option--using my battery when it wants to. I could over come this with Battery Control and/or Adaptive modes, but one thing I can't do is get it to warm the engine prior to hitting the highway.

I also don't know when this change happened--I don't recall a recent update. I think it may have been updated when I had the car in for service recently (or maybe some setting I set four years ago got changed...?)

Any ideas on what changed, and how I can regain control over my car's use of the ICE? It's really just acting like another Hybrid mode now.

it’s not a change but likely something in the settings. when you select Sport drive mode, are you actually in Sport Standard or Sport Individual? (note that subsequent button presses cycles between Sport Standard and Sport Individual). if Sport Individual, then double-check the engine setting. if that’s set to Comfort, then that explains why it’s utilizing the electric motor like Hybrid/Adaptive modes. you want to change that setting to Sport (or just ensure you’re driving in Sport Standard mode)

BTW I tend to activate Sport Standard drive mode to preserve battery charge instead of Battery Control

I do the same thing you do for the same reasons, but I just push the gear shifter to the left, and it stays in ICE mode until I move it back. Is this the same as pushing the Sport button? It's certainly more intuitive.

no it’s not. pushing the gear lever to the left activates the Sport M/S program

I guess I better go back into the manual to figure out the difference between Sport and Sport M/S on the 45e.

I do the exact same thing in my 45e and I noticed something very similar recently. I did get an OTA software update a week or two ago and the dealer just serviced it last week.

Sport or sport M/S mode never attempt to preserve HVB at high SoC. It provides moving power from ICE, but 12V supply is maintained by HVB. For example, if you are in super hot or cold weather, even in sport mode, you will see HVB being consume very fast.

Further more sport mode will act like Auto stop and go. When car reach stationary, say traffic’s light or traffic jam on highway, ICE will stop. To prevent ASS behavior, it is sport M/S where ICE won’t turn off at all.
