Check iDrive screen very carefully before taking delivery.
Just got my 2025 X5M about a month ago. After a couple of weeks of owning the car I decided to clean the screen. After cleaning and inspecting for finger prints, I found a crack right smack dab in the middle of the instrument cluster with a reddish hue around it. Note: this crack is only visible under direct light and AFAIK has not caused any issues with functionality. My local BMW dealership won't replace it under warranty as I should have caught this before delivery and there is no way this could happen on their watch as they are so meticulous with protecting the screens. Although it looks bad in the pics, there is no way in hell I would have noticed this in any weather conditions except direct sunlight, which is rare in extreme Northern California this time of year due to the cloudy weather/rain. I feel bummed as I just spent $140K on a new car and it has a crack in the screen, albeit small. Anyone know how much it would cost to replace the screen? Can't believe I'm considering replacing a new iDrive screen on a new car. Note: first two pics are with flashlight, third pic is under direct sunlight. In any other lighting you cannot see anything. Thanks for any suggestions.

That's the problem. It clearly happened from the outside. . Noticed it around 2,000 miles/two weeks after taking delivery. Because we are greeted with an animation any time we step in our vehicles, it makes this small crack virtually invisible to see in 95% of lighting situations (for now). In retrospect I should have inspected the screen with a flash light before taking delivery, but the last thing I wanted to do when after waiting 3 months for this to be built is to go over it with a fine tooth comb. I suppose at the very least, this is an expensive lesson learned.

Don’t you have pictures from when you received the car?
I always take lots of photos when I get a new car, both inside and out. Thanks to this, I was able to get a carbon mirror replaced at no cost on my X5 45e and the roof of my VW California, which was defective (the roof replacement was over 10k). It’s highly recommended to document everything. |
