N55 preventative maintenance.
Happy Sunday everyone,
I recently picked up an M135i on 90k miles. The service history isn’t brilliant but it’s there, I would of liked better but the deal I got was to good to pass up! Since owning it I have done the following: -Metal Chargepipe -Oil change -New tensioner (old one was shaking) -downpipe -mhd stage 2 tune -new air intake cone Previous owner had rocker cover gasket and oil sump gasket replaced. What can I do to ensure the car stays healthy? I believe pcv may be on its way out so does anyone have any experience with that? Thank you! |

You covered most items. Plan for water pump (if not replaced) and potentially coolant hoses, expansion tank and radiator. However, I wouldn't replace any of these preemptively.

Congrats on the purchase!
I really like the 1-series Bimmers. Consider installing an aftermarket crank seal guard. Cheap insurance on the N55 to prevent the serpentine belt from ever being sucked into your engine. (Also a good time to go ahead and replace the belt & pulley too) Consider replacing the plastic coolant flange (aka the mickey mouse flange) with an aftermarket aluminum style. As with any used car purchase, I'd dump & replace all fluids and filters. - Coolant - Transmission oil & pan/filter - Differential oil - Brakes - Power Steering @ ~100k miles you should be installing a third set of spark plugs. Maybe you've already covered this one with the tune. Congrats again!!! Most of us on here love pics!!! ![]() Edit: The PCV valve is integral w/ the valve cover. Proper replacement requires installing a new VC. However, I've read a lot of posts where people have done some "MacGuiver" tricks to cut the old one out then JB weld a new one in. All above mentioned items are good ones. The oil filter housing gasket is another one to consider, if not already done. When it leaks, it can get oil onto the serpentine belt, which can cause it to slip off the pulleys and get sucked in through the crank seal when the leak gets bad enough (thus the recommended crank seal guard from above).

Right about that 100k mile service. Definitely do that and whoever you have do it also have them check any gaps you see in the service records. like the old adage explains maintenance is cheaper than repair.
