So, I coded off ASS using Bimmercode today (I have a 2022 X5 that does not have the ASS button). Once I coded that "feature" off, I ran a scan for errors using Bimmerlink. There is now an error that was not there prior to coding ASS off.
I wondered if this is normal or if anyone else that has coded ASS off has seen this same error (see attached PDF of error from Bimmerlink). |

What it sounds like is you've disabled it, but the monitoring circuit is still active, creating that error. There's probably at least another item or two that needs to be changed to keep the system from detecting the situation.
Given that the EPA economy rating is based on the ASS working, taking it in for service will likely have them restore it to factory. If you can find how to disable the monitoring logic which should remove that error from recurring, you'd probably be okay from that viewpoint. |

"this error can not be prevented unfortunately and will be present as long as the start stop function is fully disabled." Fortunately, it's a pretty easy item to turn enable or disable, so if the dealership re-enables ASS, I can easily disable it after. The error just annoys me, because I'm kind of an anal perfectionist. |

Highly unlikely the dealer can or will enable ASS if they see this. Of course if they perform an iDrive update all coding for the effected ECUs will get wiped out.

We are talking about the ability to disable ASS. When they removed the button then it is on all of the time (except when in a Sport mode/position).

Perhaps but you don't seem to understand how the start/stop system works. Reread my original post for the information.

Agreed, as it restarts on the 48 volt battery it is hardly noticeable as you say what's the issue!!!.

I disabled the ASS on my 2022 X5 using Bimmercode. Even with the mild hybrid, it still seems to lurch a little bit when accelerating from a full stop, and I don't like it. It's pretty easy to tell if the ASS is engaged, because the tach goes to 0 when you are stopped. I tested it yesterday, and with the ASS coded off, I can run in Eco, Comfort, or Sport without the engine stopping.

My understanding is that once you've put it Eco mode, ASS returns

This is correct. Whenever returning to ECO after running another mode, ASS returns. Comfort and Adaptive modes return to your previous ASS setting for each mode if you enabled ASS memory when you coded.

I’ll have to try it again to verify, but pretty sure when I tested Eco yesterday and ASS did not return.
