Ended up paying £895, took wife of policy because she had a claim last year, would have been over £100 cheaper with her on policy if she hadn't had a claim - odd.
Pick car up next Friday, at Southampton docks at the moment.

Mine worked out at £1360 with the tracker fitted on £650 combined excess. I guess the theft has really hammered my price even though the claim in the end was less than £1k.

Talking to a genius, my X5 50e is '165' sat on the dock at Charleston even though it was built in w/c 14 (completed 4th Apr). Would you share with me how you managed to get yours to Southampton as I'm deeply frustrated.

Insurance quote from BMW (website) is ~£85 pcm. Who are you getting (sensible) quotes from? Thanks

Mine is a 2023 ordered in January, mine was also at docks in Charleston for over 3 weeks, sailed on 5th April and took just over 2 weeks to dock at Southampton, car was built on March 11th. Quotes off go compare and have gone with admiral, not cheapest but included all I needed for car.
My dealer is in Portsmouth less than 30 miles from Southampton but still over a week for me to collect car. Goes to distribution centre first for checking and preparation.

Many thanks, just the info I was looking for. I hope you 'enjoyed' the journey of your car from conception to drive and that it gives you many smiles in the future

Yes had it eight days now. I'm really impressed with it, it feels big and luxurious. It drives really nicely too, doesn't feel as sporty as the X3 M40i but its far quicker without feeling it.

Dont have many photos of it yet.

If yours is still in Charleston I think the shipping company that tends to do a lot of the BMW work is Wallenius Wilhelmsen and the next sailing is the 30 April on 'Arc Defender' arriving in Southampton on 13 May. My X5 50e is being built this week and I'm hoping it gets on that ship as my expected delivery date ties in with that shipping schedule.

If you find out they are using a different company let us know on here. I'm hoping to work out the 'at sea' part of the delivery timeline...

That's really useful information, thanks. So, why are 'they' telling me delivery (to dealer) is scheduled for w/c 8th May? Also, I understood that ships went from Charleston to Bremerhaven and then back to the UK.Clearly I'm showing my lack of knowledge re the BMW delivery process and should probably just sit back, relax and just wait for the call from my dealer... but I know I can't

Naturally, if I find any more info I'll add it here

Has anyone tried to use the BMW insurance portal for a quote? I tried and noticed that PHEV version is only the 45e, the 50e isn't an option.

Update:

Just in case anyone had the question, here is the reply from a Genius;

I have had a look into this for you and I can confirm that you will need to contact the BMW Car Insurance Customer Service team on 0330 058 4088 and they will go ahead and assist you with this. For further information such as opening times, please click here. https://bmw-carinsurance.co.uk/contact/

My "at sea" part was from 5th April until 20th April, hope yours catches the ship.

My delivery to dealer was scheduled for week commencing 17th April but because of ship schedules has moved to this week, must admit the estimated delivery was much more accurate and shorter than my previous X5 in November 2021. They ship directly to Southampton now.

If I read the https://www.walleniuswilhelmsen.com/schedules schedules correctly then the Arc Integrity leaves Charleston 30 Apr and arrives Southampton 27 May. and the Arc Defender is 1 May to 14 May

Yes, I noticed that the Arc Defender sailing had shifted back by a day (was 30 Apr/13 May and is now 1 May/14 May). It does say that the schedules are subject to change so hopefully that extra day before sailing will give my vehicle the chance to be on it. Still in QC at the moment.

Hello - just joined and much appreciate this information, which along with BMW Genius update that the X5 50e I’ve ordered is in transit from USA (code 165) expected to be delivered to my BMW Centre in week commencing 22 May, likely confirms it’s on that ship!

Regarding insurance, expecting to pay significantly higher premium for the 50e, having considerably more power and higher value than my GLE 350 DE that it’ll be replacing, and also that insurer will require tracker to be fitted - the type referred to in:

Luckily for me I opted for it in the options menu when I ordered my X5 because Direct Line insisted it had a tracker fitted before they'd insure the car.
Dealer says I can still add Trackstar, to be fitted at the distribution centre prior to delivery, but though convenient, the consistently negative TrustPilot reviews of that company - https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/trackstar.co.uk - reportedly poor customer service, false alarms/alerts, wrong location information etc, rather put me off. What’s anyone’s experience been of Trackstar, or any other make of tracker (in UK)?

I'm new here but, my 50e was sat in Charleston for 4 weeks - yes, 4 weeks with code 165. This code is "Factory exit and transit [In transit - Plant of Manufacture to Port of Departure]" NOT on a ship! Mine was only loaded yesterday and the code changed to 195 "Exit warehouse (car) (Shipped from Port of Exit) [In transit]". My original delivery date from a Genius was w/c 8th May, now it is w/c 22 May. I would double check with a Genius...

WFIW When discussing options etc. with my dealer, he said that the Trackstar was now fitted as part of the production/assembly process.

I've only been with them a few weeks and spoke to them once. The phone service was really good and fixed my issue quickly. The app seems good to and always knows where my car is.

Thanks - seems it was incorrect of the ‘Genius’ to tell me that the car is in transit from USA when still at 165, in which case that puts in doubt the expected delivery to BMW Centre in week commencing 22 May, given the 2 week crossing. Will check with Genius again.

Info re Trackstar as well as Dandle’s experience of it having so far been ok noted thanks. There’s a company I’ve found online - Trackerteam, who supply Trackstar and a number of other makes - think I will consult them before deciding
