Likely will not since you are no longer under the 4yr/50k new vehicle warranty. You could try and argue it should be covered since OTA's are supposed to be as long as the vehicle is technically capable but not sure that is a valid argument. If you have been running that old version all this time without issues and you are happy with things then no big loss of they don't update it.

I am new here, but I have the same issue with my car. After running the diagnosis, it shows that 'my battery is running low', so that no further OTA is available. However, from day-to-day use, I cannot find any problems with my battery, very odd.

BMW's 12vdc battery maintenance routine is not ideal for battery life - it's optimized for fuel economy. There's a good reason why they specify an AGM type- they rarely charge it up fully. They won't force it to recharge until it is down to like 60%, waiting for you to be coasting, braking, or stopping to engage the clutch to do any charging by activating the alternator's clutch during those times (otherwise, the thing is not actively charging). So, depending on your trip length and use pattern, it's not unusual for your battery to not be fully charged.

I put my battery on a CTEK maintainer to ensure a full charge but the update would never install. Asked my dealer to install it. They deleted it and said it was problematic and I should be glad it didn't install. WTF?

Since I've owned my X5, it has had, I think, four s/w updates. One of them wouldn't load. When I took it in, they checked the computer, found an error, uploaded that current new version, and the subsequent one loaded OTA without any issues. So, there could be a software/hardware issue that is preventing the software from loading, but be aware of the prerequisites about where you're parked, and what is needed to perform an update. Just like my iWatch, it won't apply an update without certain power levels...your BMW won't either.

So - I’m on 7/2021.50, which I believe downloaded 11/2021. Been working great-downloaded OTA/through the phone.
No downloads since then. So, regular oil appointment today and I mentioned I needed to be updated - though both the phone app and the car (when searching for upgrades) say I’m up to date. Brought in the SIB as well. SA - who I like and believe is knowledgeable and honest - says at the end of the day that the computers are saying I am up to date and that 7/2021.50 is fine. Thoughts? |

They should update it for you if they follow the SIB. There should be no reason for them not to since BMW will pay them to do it.

I could never get the 7/22 release to work but the 11/22 release downloaded and prepped itself today. Installed fine with no issues.
Only thing I learned is on the 45e the car will stop charging and you have to restart the charging after the update. |

The charging being stopped during the update is mentioned in the update notes.

This is two updates in a row that haven't worked on the wife's '19 X5. Super weird and she doesn't care, but it drives me nuts!

Same here. I had an update and it was removed by my dealer when I took it in for the annual service. Within a week a newer version has been uploaded but it's been weeks and I'm still waiting for it to be installed. Maddening!

Especially on an older vehicle's battery, it may be hard for it to attain the necessary charge. A typical battery may not last much more than 4-years without some tender care. If you haven't tried...put a battery charger on your vehicle until it says it is fully charged, then drive, and see if it allows you to perform the s/w update when you next stop. Depending on the BMW, it could have 3 batteries, and all of them need a charge above 70%, which doesn't always happen even with regular driving. The clutch operated alternator only runs when you are decelerating or if it detects the battery is too low...it does NOT try to keep it fully charged like older vehicles usually did...that's one reason why it uses an AGM battery and a huge alternator, so it can push some charge into the battery when it thinks the conditions are right.

Yes agreed jad03060
On my '22, I have received 3 OTA updates. With all three the only way I could get them to actually install is to put a battery tender on overnight and then install in the morning. I left the charger on during the process. Obviously all of you could have a different issue. |

Think of it this way...your phone likely won't let you run an update unless its battery charge is above a certain level...you X5 won't, either. It is not uncommon, especially with a battery more than a couple of years old on a BMW that it won't be holding that great of a charge, so a battery maintainer can make all of the difference. My first BMW's battery needed to be changed at 1-year. The second, after another two years. The third lasted 7-years because I periodically put a battery maintainer on it. It depends not only on how often it is driven, but HOW it is driven, whether the battery charge is kept high enough. A long highway trip is not going to charge it up...city, stop and go, without long stops has a better chance of keeping the battery charged...but, lots of short trips, not, as the load from warming or cooling the vehicle off has the fans and maybe a/c cranking, using up lots of power as does winter driving where many things like seat heaters, windows, lights all suck up lots of power.
