For the start button it should be pretty easy and inexpensive, the only option is to buy the aftermarket crystal button. As far as the shifter goes, most likely you'd have to swap out the whole shifter console and coding will be needed as well, not going to be cheap

Leo923 any luck switching back to shift lever from shift paddle? Same here. Don’t like the paddle at all.

i found a listing on eBay that comes with an adapter to put the shifter on it but in the end i left it alone. didn't want to mess with it any more being it's such a new car and i dont want the dealership to one day tell me something is my fault.

I did full Crafted Clarity retrofit to my G20 with original BMW parts.
So I changed gear knob, start button, volume button and iDrive knob. I didn't want to have glossy console, like G05 have (the reason are scratches), so i did everything to my G20 matt console. To change gear knob you need to disconnect the batteries (I didn't, so I burned my ribbon cable and two hall sensors in my center console (i got new one under warranty )). Remove back cover from gear knob, disconnect ribbon and remove torx bolt. Coding I did at dealership with ISTA (it is original retrofit option). You can also add it to VO with eSys or change parameters via FDL coding with eSys. For start button is necessary to disassemble whole center console, because of the different support under the start button. For volume button i changed the whole button with plastic around it. For iDrive knob i changed whole knob. It can be open from below, so there you need to disconnect the ribbon and remove one torx bolt. Original Glass iDrive controller is thicker than standard one and is not illuminated. Maybe this will help someone with same type center console (F40/F44/G05/G06/G07/G14/G15/G16/G20/G21/G28/G22/G23/G26/G29/...) Here are some pics: Last edited by panki_86; 12-26-2023 at 07:00 PM.. |

Damn thats impressive. New to all this. You mentioned coding is needed in this retrofit. Is that a different type of coding and not an issue like Bimmercode coding not working on 2024 LCI models?

Coding makes the X light up, otherwise you can go without it. In this case it's VO, so needs to be done with Esys, Bimmercode doesn't have this ability.

Just for clarity, the inability to do coding on the LCI is not exclusive to Bimmercode. No coding tool can do it since BMW changed to secure doing that requires server authentication.

Thanks for the clarity. Yes I understand that.
If coding is needed when I swap the gear shift console for any reason, will that be unable to do as well? I’m about to pick up the gear shift console with stick in about an hour, to replace mine with the paddle, and before I spend the money I want to know if I’ll be able to do any of this. Not all the buttons line up, but this is the closest to what I can find. Mine is on left , new on right of course |

Thanks. I assume that the hill decent button will not function any longer because it is not lined up the same. I think that is what would need coding from what I read in a thread somewhere

It might, it might not. Given that it would be a different console altogether, I think it would need some sort of coding to make the car aware of it.

On mine was option "retrofitting accessories for gear selector switch made of glass" in original ISTA. Also ISTA have option for coding display key and trailer hitch (both) for my car. Meybe he will not have this option since he want to retrofit preLCI part to the LCI? He can check at dealership. |

My local dealer was willing to code my 2020 X5 for glass retrofit for about $350. I said no thanks.

If you saw that I post this question in another thread as well, I apologize. I have my X5 disassembled and the center console apart, but I cannot unplug the wires that plug into the harness on the underside of the gear shift module. There is 3 or 4. Only the top left and top right were able to be unplugged. Any advice? Do they lock or something?

bagd0003 Here are screen shots from some videos I found online. I think I understand how to open up the latch on the grey connection to remove, but not the red. I assumed the red you just pull out, but definitely not, unless it's stuck. Thanks!

The red connect looks like it should just pull out, don't pull by the wires, but by the connector itself. maybe wiggle it a bit first.

Great thanks. I'll let you know it goes. Another question. I have an appt tomorrow at BMW because my iDrive is all messed up. Will they notice that this was swapped in their computer system. Will it alert them if I did this today and didn't wait until I get it back? If not, think they pay attention enough to know just by getting in the vehicle when I drop it off?
Thanks again |
