Similar issues here with my 21’ 40i. No air in front drivers side and hot air rear passenger. Couldnt figure it out so took it to dealer. BMW repaired under warranty. For both it was a faulty mixing flap drive/actuator (part # 64-11-9-384-023). For front, the entire dash had to be taken out to access the faulty part.

I had a heater box replaced already due to weak front air blow and hot air at the back. Replacement improved it but I still thought it's not powerful enough. Went to the dealer to compare it with another X5 and it turns out that AC has no powerful air blow. Booked for the repair again... |

5 years into the ownership and still can’t figure out how the AC work. My wife said, we probably won’t even till the day we sold the car. Sigh but I do realized once you press the “auto” at the rear, all temp will function the way it supposed to be (hot or cold air with respect of the temp. Selected).
Give it a try.

Mine is back to the service again. Worth mentioning that mine is a 4 zone. Fan blower motor and a heather box have been replaced already. Dealer says computer doesn't show error but they've confirmed that my AC is not working properly as it's very weak after comparing it with another X5. If this will not get fixed I'm thinking to start return process - consumer rights act (UK) To much hassle for a £90k car...
