I missed this thread before. I started having what sounds like the same issue last December, 7 months after I got it.
It started downshifting multiple gears, very noticeably, when slowing & stopping with the brakes, no manual downshifting. Of course the dealer said it was "normal behavior" despite it not happening for 7 months.

Odds are the rough downshifting may break the transmission at some point, and they'll get the chance to replace it ![]()

Different issue than is being discussed here with the trans. but yes. They replaced the transfer case fluid with a different type of fluid and it greatly reduced this behavior. It's not 100% gone but almost not worth mentioning.

I noticed that thing too but i may be wrong but for me the car use to hard shift when i was little hard on gas paddle instead of going very smooth on gas during stop and go or if I was driving on freeway slightly aggressive way and when merge into slow moving traffic then car shift hard , again may be I'm wrong but it feels like car remember the way you were driving and it takes the overall trip driving experience and transmission behave according to that and in stop and go it doesn't change .
I usually drive my car with ACC on freeway even or in city coz ACC and UCC works perfectly for me and shifts were normal, only use to act hard during manual driving and little aggressive , but since i tuned the transmission with xhp now in stop and go transmission automatically use 2nd gear to launch from complete stop so now its more smooth. |

Transfer case SIB with the details can be found here: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...76367-9999.pdf
Basically need to start by replacing the fluid. |

Cornering or accelerating from low speeds Driving with low to medium loads" This is not what's happening though. It's when the car's are slowing down and coming to a stop.. not when accelerating |

Did anyone found a solution? I have the same issue on my X3 G01 30i, dealer say it is normal, unbelivable... cannot reproduce it though... it happens sometimes not everytime, mostly in traffic conditions. Did anyone found a way to reproduce it and denonstrate it to the dealer?

I wonder if resetting the transmission adaptations would help. It takes less than a minute with nothing to loose. Someone would have to search for the exact process, but I think you just hold the gas pedal down for about 30 seconds or so in ACC mode (probably Diagnostics mode on the G-series cars).
Maybe someone could try it and report back with the results, which should be felt immediately . |

I did a software update and this resetted also gearbox adaptations but did not helped. I had a road test with local BMW dealer and they said that this is normal car behavior. Stupid, if all BMWs would have this behavior this brand would not be so sold and loved.
Then I had a discussion with an independent gearbox specialist and he told me he saw similar simptoms on some ZF8HP gearboxes, it happens randomly, it cannot be reproduced and may be caused by a faulty valve body. I scheduled a road test with him next week to feel the gearbox although I do not know if the downshift while slowing down will be noticeable. Will keep you updated. |

I have the same thing with my 24 40i. I just figured it was the stupid regenerative braking and part of the 48v hybrid nonsense. Seems to smooth out after driving a few miles but very pronounced early in a trip. This issue coupled with the annoying ASS, which I can defeat using tips found on another thread, almost make me want to trade this in on something else. It’s obnoxious and the lack of refinement in a 75k vehicle is piss poor. It just looks so damn good…….
