I'm going to try taping a bag around the roof.
You can tape around the perimeter of the whole sunroof, preventing any water from going into the sunroof gutter, so no water to drain.

I had a leak coming from the microphone when it was really pouring hard, but when it was light rain, water would come down the passenger side A pillar. The leak looks like it may be caused by a similar issue to what I've experienced.

I've posted in this thread in the past about my issue and the repair performed:

The drain hose from the sunroof travels down the A pillar and it exits near the door check, then drains down to the ground.
Maybe there is a kink/clog in the hose and water is finding its way inside?

Must be. The sun roof is clear. Not a spot. Must be clogged at the bottom.

BMW X5 water leak

There is so much bad information about this problem. There are so many things that can cause this problem one fix cannot cure it all. The most common is clogged drains, easily cured, others can be complicated and expensive. Kinked or collapsed drain hoses are not so easy to repair. Materials in the drain channel blocking the drain would require the removal of headliner and sunroof cassette to cure. Broken seal between the cassette and the drain hose receiver, requires the removal of both the headliner and the cassette to cure. Bad weather seal on the glass needs new weatherstrip. Water on the floor is a bigger problem. Speakers and amps on the floor may be damaged as well as other electrical items. The carpet has a high density pad that absorbs water and does not easily release it, needs to be removed and dried or it will mold. Best advice is call insurance provider and make a water damage claim. Take it to a qualified shop.
