This is crazy if true. You would have thought BMW wanted to encourage their customers to use the BMW apps/maps/screens etc that drive subscriptions ie map updates with Car Play only being notifications in the background. They are just driving customers to only use Car Play only in my opinion.

I have just spoken to Connected Drive in the UK about this. They have advised that this has been reported by several people. They can neither ‘confirm or deny’ that this functionality has been degraded by design or due to a bug.
They did say they can open a dev ticket for this issue for me with BMW to investigate. However they pointed out that there is a new November 2024 iDrive version available (I’m currently running 07/2024.30), this November 2024 upgrade is currently only through dealerships not over the air as yet and that over the air will take several months. Their may, or may not be a fix in this release however they cannot open the ticket until the car is on the newest iDrive version. Does anyone have the November 2024 iDrive release that can confirm if this has or has not fixed this issue? |

My iPhone 14 Pro never seems to connect the Car Play automatically. Although set to automatically connect i have to manually log into wifi and then that seems to disconnect the bluetooth, which i then have to manually reconnect before Car Play seems to connect. I have given up worrying about it and only force it on if I'm taking a longer road trip.

I have experienced solid CarPlay connection for almost 4 years, but note i have iDrive 7 11/2023.50. after updating to iOS 18 (now 18.1), I’ve noticed connection times could sometimes take as long as 2 minutes without any input from me (just ensuring both WiFi and bluetooth are on and activated in the control center as stated above). usually connection occurs in about 10 seconds, but the 2-minute time has been more frequent since iOS 18 Last edited by nZtiZia; 11-06-2024 at 03:23 PM.. |

Yeah - this is a bit off topic. Last OTA update would not complete on my 2020 X5.... I ignored it. Later had an issue where the car "thought" my hood was open.... in addition to dash light, a "beep, beep, beep" for 90 seconds.... and every time I stopped, 90 seconds would restart... SO I took it to dealer... they said it was a SOFTWARE ISSUE and charged me $125 to install the update that should have worked, OTA!!! Grrrr. |

I get text notification via siri reading the text message, but it doesn't suggest if I want to reply like it used to.

Ok, 2022 G06 x5, everything working great iOS 17.x, probably 2022 release of software
“Upgrade” to iOS 18.2 cause I usually wait for a .2 or more. X5 hates me and the phone. I “upgrade” to 07.2024 on X5, forget all devices, forget all phone settings for WiFi/carplay/BT. Works for a few days, but then starts dropping randomly. Repeat the “forget everything” protocol and it works then stops. |

We are all in the same, very expensive boat, and at Apple’s mercy to fix this very annoying yet simple problem.
I’m asking again, surely SOMEONE here on these forums works at or is friends with someone who works at Apple HQ who can bring attention to our plight?

I have also found out the same thing, that its working fine in other car brands except for BMW. Except its globally affected all BMWs, so I dont think its a software issue with idrive, but something in iOS. That’s my thought anyway.

You're saying there's a failure to do something basic in iDrive which seems to be accomplished easily by all other vehicle manufacturers? Seems like they'd need to be pretty incompetent for that to be the case. Of course, these are the same software devs who couldn't code charging in a time window correctly, even over 3+ years of software updates, and that seems pretty g-damn trivial also, so yeah, math checks out.

Unfortunately the update has not fixed the issue in my X7. Texts show up on CarPlay screen but that’s it. What’s equally frustrating - chatting a little bit about this issue with the service manager at my dealership (and wasn’t expecting a solution), he operated from the premise that surely I had a setting wrong. “Never seen this before.” Right, me either.

Your last sentence is the crux. The guy I spoke with at the dealership talked about a “work around.” 🤦🏻‍♂️ A work around for a feature that *should* be fixed/working, but as yet still not remedied. Makes me wonder how difficult it would be either for Apple or BMW to pick up the phone or email - to communicate - and solve this. We can remotely operate a rover on Mars but can’t solve something like this.

Update: 18.2.1 did it. Had to forget all phones, forget the car wifi and load from settings. Also- discussed with friends that have ford and Chevy and both had issues until the next update.
