One of the problems with EVs is the new/new to region manufacturers don't have dealers around to do repairs and often there is no information on how to repair them/what level of damage is safe/dangerous so independent body shops can fix them.

Then there is the issue of the system that kills the battery connection in the event of a collision, objective being to isolate the high voltage batteries from the wires so if any exposed wires exist they don't have lethal voltages exposed - this often results demands in new battery even if just a new Pyrofuse is needed.

If companies want to sell EVs they will have to sort sort it out the insurance issues and the risks associated batteries that generate fear.

Just 59 miles (or less) on a FULL charge with a used EV.

^ ? Spectacular fail would be more appropriate, reduced to a shopping car just to whistle it's way down the road to costco. Still, with the small battery little chance of igniting.. but I spoke too soon.

The advice is if you notice anything that is wrong with an EV is to not charge it, don't garage it and call 911 or 999 in GB.

Samsung had to withdraw and recall the Galaxy Note 7 because of the fire risk from the battery, people have been killed because of fires from recharging scooter/electric bikes. Dustcarts/Garbage Trucks have caught fire due to lithium batteries being thrown away and damaged.

You are still much more likely to be killed/injured in a car accident than an EV catching fire.

If you see any issue with a lithium battery then you should stop using it - that includes laptops with swelling batteries!

The difference there is that your driving prowess can decide if you are in an accident or not, something completely different. With an EV erupting on fire as I have said before, you won't know when, you won't know where it may happen and probably at a time you were least expecting it with the thought that if it did happen whilst being driven would the occupants be able to escape.

It is really nice to know that the data shows a TEN-FOLD lower chance of an EV fire over an ICE fire. Whenever people ask me if they should worry about EV fires, I just tell them that there are a bunch of people on internet forums who will do that for them. Then they can just go about their lives in peace.

Last accident I was in was due to a deer running onto a motorway up an embankment just in front of my car during dark winter's evening, I was under the speed limit leaving plenty of gap - yes my reactions probably helped as I had just enough time to swerve and not hit it square on, but if it had been half a mile down the road I'd been checking to pull out into next lane.

The one before I was stationary at traffic lights and someone hit me from behind (that takes us back about 15 years)

Yes your driving skills and patience will reduce chance of accidents, but you can't avoid every thing and there are still morons driving.

My friend has a Tesla Y and the passenger side door was scratched by an accident. The body shop told him they need to wait for about 7 months for the new door to come from Tesla in order to fix his car. If it was me, I will me so piss. 7 months of waiting for just a new door. This is totally BS.

Electric Car Charger Vandalism Continues To Surge Nationwide

My friend also told me the places he has been in Vancouver (Canada) for charging his Tesla, on average more than 60% of the charging stations were out of order. If the government really want to push EV, you better get the shit together....

That's the worst case scenario when a druggie, drunk or just a complete idiot hits you from behind that even an excellent driver has no control over.

More and more people are showing they don't like this arm twisting deal from the bubment and their net zero course is a headlong drive into a concrete wall for the future generations of the working class.

Chevrolet Bolt owners win $150 million settlement after electric vehicles caught fire
May 17, 2024
General Motors and LG are establishing a $150 million fund to compensate Chevrolet Bolt owners after a faulty battery caused some of the electric vehicles to burst into flames.
GM partnered with subsidiaries of South Korea-based electronics company LG to create the batteries used in the Bolt, which debuted in 2015. In the following years, drivers noticed their cars would spontaneously catch fire, leading to owners to file complaints about the problem with GM and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
GM sold just under 25,000 Bolts in the U.S. before telling dealers to stop selling them. The company ceased production of the vehicle in December of 2023, a major financial and reputational blow for GM as automakers raced to enter the electric vehicle market. The automaker has spent $1.8 billion recalling the Bolt because of its battery issues.
GM has said it plans to stop manufacturing gas-powered cars by 2035 and will spend $35 billion to roll out more than 30 new EVs globally by 2025, including about 20 in North America.

BYD Showroom Burns to the Ground After One Electric Car Bursts Into Flames
16 May 2024
However, one car brand recorded more EV fires than others, at least judging by the number of fire reports over the past years. I'm talking about BYD, Tesla's main rival, partner, and one of the biggest Li-ion battery manufacturers. Many such fires happened in 2021 and 2022, and the carmaker appeared to have solved its quality problems in the past years. However, another fire erupted on Thursday in a BYD showroom in Fuzhou, the capital of the Chinese province Fujian.
According to the Fuzhou Fire Department, the fire started from an electric vehicle parked inside the showroom. A video shared on Chinese social media showed a massive fire engulfing the showroom.

One way to avoid being trapped in your Tesla in adverse weather is to do what 99.9% of Tesla owners do. It's update your car overnight. It's stunningly easy.
