Ok, I had my car in today for a battery replacement and had them look into the cornering lights.
Here's what they said: 1) Yes, the cornering lights for laser housings are a part of the housing, whereas previous models f10, f15, etc. used the fog lights as cornering lights. 2) They tested every lighting function of the headlights and they all worked as normally should. There were no codes or error messages they could see. 3) They also said the cornering lights did light up, albeit very faintly when they turned the wheels one way or they other. I couldn't verify this at pick up because it was bright and sunny out. I just tried it in my garage with no lights other than the car's, and I still see no difference in the cornering lights turning on at all. 4) My advisor said the LED low beams are so bright and efficient at shifting when you turn that the cornering lights may not be very visible. 5) I told him that I've tested it out numerous times and still see no visible lights shining down on the road as I turn, but he said they were indeed working. So, take it for what it is, I'm not sure if it can be definitively be confirmed one way or the other whether it's working or not. |

I would file his opinion under BS. Every car i have had that had cornering lights, including our 17 q7, had very obvious to the side of the car illuminating drive way entrances and the like .The q7 are led and progressively come on and off like there on dimmers. I see the light in the housing but i believe the software is not turning them on since it is connected to the steering.
I just wish bmw would admit what is not working and let us know they are working on it instead of making there customers guess whats normal. |

I brought it up with him regarding the software possibly just needing an update to address the situation. He said that the car is new and any software update won't be coming out for a while. He is right that the car is too new and not a lot is known about it, be it from service techs or BMW. The only reason why we're so keen on these issues is because we all report and try to troubleshoot them en masse. I'm fairly confident that there will be a new update or major overhaul of software release coming soon. I'm thinking BMW is making a list of all the possible bugs that's come up and trying to address them all at once with a big patch release. Oh, I also drove around my cul de sac doing hard u-turns both directions and nope, no lights, no difference whatsoever. |

I stared at the cornering light in our headlight housing as I turned the wheels, flicked the turn signals, turned on fogs, turned off fogs, turned on high beams, and nothing....nada, no change. |

I mentioned this to my dealer last week during my genius appointment and they just kept finding excuses. They first told me that the feature is the steering headlight. After me pointing out that those are separate features listed separately in the user manual, they proceeded to tell me that maybe the cornering light is "removed" due to the new laser light design. Later another genius tried to tell me that it's normal for the cornering light to not light up and it is supposed to just reflect the light coming from the headlamps. Thanks to this thread I'm not convinced at all to all these craps... I don't understand why it's so hard for them to not jump into conclusions and instead do an investigation or simply ask corporate if they are unsure?

I checked mine again tonight from both inside and outside the car, and there is absolutely no cornering light that comes on, not even faintly. Looks like the Canadian models have the same issue as the American. Wondering if any Euro or Asian spec G05's have operating cornering lights?

Nothing yet from my dealer. I texted with my SA today and they are still awaiting a response from BMWNA engineering. Hopefully something early next week!
But I definitely encourage everyone to get their dealer to open up a request with BMWNA. The more reports they get hopefully the more likely they are to issue a fix for everyone!

From the BMW X5 2019 online manual
"Cornering light In tight curves, for instance on mountainous roads or when turning, an additional, cornering light is switched on that lights up the inside of the curve when the vehicle is moving below a certain speed. The cornering light is automatically switched on depending on the steering angle. When driving in reverse, the cornering lights may be automatically switched on regardless of the steering angle." After reading this thread over and over, I'm having trouble determining what is/is not expected. Some say that the cornering light is available only with Laser Light Option.
For a non-Laser build, "Adaptive LED Highlights" are listed as standard, but "cornering lights" are not listed. On the build sheet, no matter which option is selected, I don't see "cornering lights" listed. So, my question is whether the manual is wrong and (1) there's no cornering light option on any version, or (2) cornering light is ONLY available with Laser Light Option? Or can somebody provide information (other than the manual) that shows whether corner light is available as standard, or with part of a specific option package? |

Also, here you can see cornering lights in the laser lights on the new 3, X7, LCI 7, and 8 series. So again, BMW wouldn’t be designing these lights with the cutout if they didn’t serve a purpose.

Both the standard adaptive and Laser Lights have the corner lights noted. |
