I pulled the trigger on the mesh Sly Bracket. For reference, I have MSport, ACC, Park Assist. Essentially all the options on the front end that limit the location of the license plate.
https://www.slybrackets.com/store/#!...617/category=0 I spent about 30 minutes trying a few positions until I found one that is working really well so far. No proximity warnings, ACC working as expected. Here are a few pics of the process. 1. I used the second honeycomb row from the bottom as I didn't want the bottom bar touching the bottom trim. I also slid the bottom bar as far to the left as possible, about 1/8" from the trim to get it as far away from the ACC sensor as possible. 2. The first time I went through the process I didn't use spacers, then had to take it apart and do it again. The second time, I used the small spacers that came with the kit. This allowed the final assembly to protrude past the trim enough so I could slide the license plate as far to the left as possible. For reference, I used the middle of the three machine screw holes on the bracket to attach to the mesh grill. 3. Next, I attached the final frame piece that is used to attach the license plate. You can tell by the screws at the right and left which screw holes I used. This allows for the license plate to be positioned just below the left parking sensor and not too low to protrude from the bottom of the bumper. 4. Final assembly after attaching the license plate. You can tell from this profile photo that the license plate doesn't protrude too far from the bumper, but also isn't so close that you risk scratching it at the same time. Hope this helps someone else. I'm only about 4 hours into usage but no complaints so far. |

Excellent post, thanks! The only thing that bothers me about this bracket is that the plate is only held on by the top two screws, and bows as can be seen in one of your pics. I don't understand why they didn't make the mounting part of the bracket a full rectangle instead of being 3 sided. I'm wondering if it's legal to drill a couple of holes in the license plate so that you'd be able to screw the plate in the two bottom holes of the mounting bracket.

Right. US Millworks is the best. But they don’t return email questions. So, there is no way to find out when, or if, they will make one to fit the G05. I have the license frame from them that I got for my last 428. I just need the larger bolt. They will not respond.

Dealer installed "factory" bracket
Has anyone used the bracket supplied with the car and assuming you have the ACC radar sensor and install the bracket centered on the car has it created any issues with the sensor? Seems like the clearances are sufficient.
Other than drilling the holes in the bumper seems like it is actually more secure than any of these aftermarket options and is more likely to withstand an automatic car washes, (yeah, I know car washes are bad). |

I like the plate centered. I've been using these on Bimmers for years:
https://skenebrackets.com/ 2 holes drilled underneath, out of sight which I can live with. I've got one on order for the X5, it should do the trick. |

I'll be sure to take some pics on the X5. Here's the Skene on a couple of my previous bimmers. It's a clean look if you gotta attach a front plate and saves the face of the bumper from drilling holes.

I finally got around to installing the Skene bracket (extra short size). It pays to spend some time tweaking the bracket for proper angle and level when mounted and do some dry runs before mounting. I use a smaller drill bit than what they send for the pilot holes...the screws bite harder into the underside that way. With the 3M tape and secured with the screws it's mounted tight. I like the clean look it provides and saves the face of the bumper from drilled holes.

Slick solution, glad I no longer have to deal with it as Ohio just passed new legislation allowing for 1 rear plate from the previous front and rear. Would be nice if more states followed suit, but law enforcement needs those dollars, so good luck!

Good thing i'm in AZ that only require 1 plate. Will need to sell the car if I move to a state that will require this. sorry, but this puts an eye sore on a beautiful car! @[Denk] wonder if that will affect the center sensor under it?

I don't have ACC. The Skene is adjustable so it wouldn't be an issue with ACC, same as the OEM front plate mount.

Honestly if one day I can remove the front plate on the msport bumper it looks like you can replace the insert were the plate would be screwed in , I just think the plate mounted low or to the side just don't look right ,

Or just use bumper plugs. They're a decent cheap alternative and would end up looking like a couple of extra sensors.

Hello everyone,
Its my first post, I use this easy solution that I had for many of my cars (Two way sticker) This is extremely strong yet easy to remove, and the residue can be removed without damaging the paint or the body. You just have to find a flat area and use long pieces (Two is good, but three would be extremely strong). I am installing a ceramic coating on it now and haven't figured out where would the best location to put it on. Will probably share it next week |
