saw the new supra in person today at a dealership in downtown toronto
looks good from certain angles, but not so much from others definitely does not evoke the sense of an evolved e86 coupe |

Certainly did to me, but as an E36/8 owner, I didn't much care for the E86, so perhaps that colored it.

Excluding TRC's drag strip session, it looks like people have already started roll racing the GR Supra. So far, in bone stock form, it appears to have faster straight line acceleration than an E90 M3 and FBO 135i.

"I was in the BMW's backseat, and I wasn't all that impressed to be honest. Just downpipes and an MHD flash, no custom tune, intercooler, or anything. Also had 650 pounds of people in the car. It's an n55 1 series, too, not n54." These two cars are about the same weight and are running about the same power, so the extra 450-500lbs of people was likely the difference. This wasn't one of the 450hp+ 135i monsters we've seen. |

I like the stance of the tuned car. I don't know why shifting is such a burden to the driver. He can't decide whether he wants to be in D or manual, then once he finally decides, he shifts two gears at a time...

Saw one while out touring dealerships last weekend. really liked it quite a bit but thought the roof was overdone.
Gonna be the only way to get a BMW two seater soon.

Finally saw this in person , and the plethora of fake vents just killed it for me
Can understand if this were a $30k Subaru .....but come on ! $60k and fake vents , plus body lines specificly made to accommodate such fake vents What were they thinking |

The car is an utter disappointment. Toyota has lost their way that’s for certain.

I think the C8 will probably have the most affect on the Supra among the 2 seater imports. I don't think the Cayman/Boxter will be affected as much since those buyers are not as purely performance/speed concerned as the Supra buyers. The 100K 911 buyers won't be cross shopping with the C8 as much either because of the price difference.

Yeah Supra idea was nice in theory except it's a BMW. Probably not reliable like the all mighty MKIV. No manual and now for a few grand more you can get a mid engine corvette. Wtf is the world coming too??? And none of those cars can touch a Tesla in the quarter. Strange times indeed.

Also I don't see many cross shopping a Tesla with these cars because of the raw feel that they give (even with an auto). Lower seating position, still a 2 door coupe, and RWD making <4s sprints to 60 makes for a unique driving experience. Even a model 3 without the performance model can't do <4s sprints and the performance model comes AWD standard which doesn't feel the same as a RWD car, even when not at the limit (came from a tuned/modified 240ix running 3.6s sprints) The c8 though, even in base trim, comes with an mLSD (not the fancy eLSD of the Z51 package). To me, the c8 is the only other option besides a Supra/Z4 and even that comes down to quality of assembly and dealer experience, both of which Chevy has shown less than desirable in the past. Although quality of parts has improved, assembly still has it's moments. And enjoy the chevy cruze loaner (if you can even get a loaner during your service) that most chevy dealerships will provide for their customers who spent $60k+ on a vehicle. Most BMW dealerships (can't vouch for Toyota) will put you in something of equal or greater value for a service loaner. Oh and as made very apparent when I was trying to get the 8sp fixed under recall in my Colorado ZR2, chevy dealerships will fight you tooth and nail to weasel out of doing the repair (had to go in 3 times to try and get them to do the recall, third time I went to another dealer entirely and they finally did it). When I get my c8 (gonna be a few years since I wasn't patient enough to wait for the c8 debut and got a z4) I will perform all service myself just to avoid the dealer as much as possible.

Maybe if you have sawzall. There’s been quite a bit of marketing doublespeak with this car from engineers and others.
