I’d recommend a valve controller over removing it. No worry about errors and you can open and close it as you wish.

This thread has been up a few years now. Is there an consensus on having a relatively low cost option to make the m60i sound better? It's not real rocket science but of course things needs to be done & tested. The p1 sounds real good but at 3K plus install it's just too expensive. Any other less expensive options that sound good with no drone? I know most don't get this to sound like a sports car but it sounds like a muted 4 cyl stock which is sad for a 100K V8 twin turbo. Some of us def want it to sound like a V8 as the previous m50i's did. Thanks!

Inexpensive and easy? Nope! It’s more rocket scientist than you think. There’s half a dozen threads on the Engine/Exhaust forum. Read all about it. Personally I think it’s fine. Nice rumble on startup after which it softens a bit. I'm happy to enjoy the V8 without being seen or heard. Stealth trumps noise for me. Everyone has differing needs. But I’ve not seen a viable alternative to the stock exhaust. On top of that, IMO, you may have potential warranty issues with such modifications.

I have pulled a fuse (or two) on other BMWs to keep the exhaust valves fully open all the time—which results in far better exhaust note. Is there a particular fuse in M60i which will do likewise?
