I believe I heard here, on forum, that Foxwell NT5xx (and, obviously above) worked for that. But I haven't tried it myself yet (I have Foxwell NT7xx)

I had to pay 7000$ for mine as I was in between BMW and 3d party warranty. Maintenance does not work- fluid may mask the issues. If wear occurred, it is done and not even refurbished units can work (myself and a friend had 3 stuttering refurbed that we only kept days and we both had to buy new TCs)
They have not redesigned them since 2010- marginally if (Magna Steir), while the X5 shot up 1500 lbs in weight and wheels got bigger. Tires slimmer profile esp 22". TCs fail on 3 4 5 X3 X5 X7 series... Faster wear (more torque transfer) esp rears. They also failed to reinvest as, wrong call, they assumed we all go electric where a TC and x2 shafts are no longer needed. BMW has improved so many aspects of these cars, N55, B58 B58 TU 1, but TC they are not budging. Really awful to drop the ball on that one. perhaps a redesign increases production costs 100%- but who cares? The part used to cost 900$ only a few years ago but we can only presume they want clients to pay and make$$$$. Let's do math. Real cost of TC manufacturing- 500 euros. New 2024-2025 cost - 4000 euros. IF BMW REPLACES 7 OUT OF 10 TRANSFER CASES UNDER WARRANTY- TRUE COST MAYBE 7000 $ USD max for BM NA. but if 3 clients pay for the TC, that is 6500$ x 3 =20,000$ so 13 K profit better than selling cars! If 5 clients pay, CHA CHING BMW NA and SC! So, like with the driveshafts (NHTSA complaints forced a redesign), unless sued or filed under US Goods, they will keep ripping owners up... |

Evening guys,
I've been reading this thread with keen interest. My 2019 G05 M50d has shown a slight tendency to shudder on full lock. Previous owner assured me that it was the tyres (which, given their size I was willing to consider this possibility). Since reading this though I've started to worry that there might be something more sinister going on so I took it to my local main dealer. It also seemed to shudder more (but this could also be me overthinking) After a short test drive the mechanic was able to sense the slights shudder and was quite optimistic that a change of oil was all that's needed - but with the caveat that it depends on the condition of the oil that comes out. It's booked in for next Monday so fingers crossed. I had a question though. I have a feeling that a second hand transfer case would be quite a big risk of spending lots on labour for a same or worse condition unit. Therefore I was wondering if there are companies out there offering reconditioning of the transfer case with good results? In case there is a mechanical failure, since I'm way out of warranty I don't hold much hopes of a good-will from BMW Italy unless it's mandated by HQ in Munich - so the recon option, or selling the car before it gets worse, are my most favoured options. Of course it could be just the oil, but wondered what you think my chances are that this will eliminate the shuddering or just prevent it getting worse? Then, worst case scenario, are these transfer cases servicable? Thanks for any advice/viewpoints. Cheers. Kev Last edited by kevm50d; 02-19-2025 at 01:59 PM.. |
