I think the longest non-known issue was around three weeks. When vehicles were waiting for the control displays it was about a month and a half or so. In that case they shipped the European vehicles without it and they were installed in Europe.

My x6 40i arrived at the dealership on 8/23. There was no stop sale order on it and is ready for pickup. I just haven’t been able to pick it up yet due to travel.

Another X5 Data Point
Quote:
On 8/8/24 our X5 was delivered to the dealer. On 8/11/24 dealer informed us that the Service TECH heard noise from rear of vehicle when he drove it for their check out. Determined it was a bad rear differential that they would have to get from the factory since no parts in distribution. We did not hear from SA so on 8/19, 8/20 and 8/21 I tried to contact him, but no response. I contacted the General Sales Manager and related not being able to contact my SA or get call back from the Service Manager, who I also tried to get a status. I was getting the impression they did not want to talk to me for some reason. On 8/22 I did get a call from my SA saying the differential was in but not installed. Then he gave me the bad news of the Stop Sale from BMW causing delay. I then when off and found the information for YR 23 and YR 24 having the IBS problem, but at that time no YR 2025 X5 Recalls per the NHTSA site. Later that day I sent him 4 questions trying to get a better picture of the situation. Note that my questions were before I was convinced that my X5 was definitely part of the Recall. I though maybe it was a manpower limitation at my dealership, getting my differential replaced, was the issue. His answers may shed some more light on the subject: Q1) Does the 2025 X5 we ordered actually have the same IBS recall on it, such that there is a Delivery Stop on new 2025 X5s coming out of the factory? Your X5 has a stop sale on it and I attached a screenshot of our internal pipeline showing your vehicle is apart of the recall. Q2) If there is a Delivery Stop on new 2025s X5s coming out of the factory now, does this mean they do not yet have a solution in place yet for 2023,2024 and 2025 X5 models yet? They have a solution in place. Some of the vehicles with this recall that are at the processing center have been fixed before they arrive at the dealership. Yours had left the processing center before the solution was found. They will be sending dealerships the necessary part to fix the issue. Q3) If the new X5s do not have the IBS issue coming off the current production line. Does this mean that any delay is based on your Service DEPT just being backed up with IBS work on the 2023 and 2024 models; thus, there is a delay to replace the differential in our X5? Delay will be in part to how long it takes BMW to send us the parts and also how long for us to move through vehicles that have the recall. All pending sold orders will have higher priority over non sold units. Q4) Given the large number of vehicles you mentioned on your lot awaiting the IBS fix it sounds like an early SEPT delivery of our X5 is questionable (especially if no fix has yet been identified, or possibly no parts are available for the fix due to backlog), what would be a realistic time frame for our X5 being ready for delivery? It might be the middle of next month for everything to be resolved. If sooner, I will let you know. That is just the current ETA for us at this time. ========== So some people got lucky and got the replacement parts before they were shipped. Having your vehicle on the dealers lot is likely better than if you had taken delivery. I suspect delivered X5s will have to wait a long time to get parts. My dealer indicated they had 70 new BMWs on the lot that were affected. They also have a huge backlog of 2023 and 2024 models that have yet to be repaired, which may get priority over recent delivered X5s...TBD how they will proceed. I'll update status when I hear more... Regards, FIVE33i |

I sent a message to my CA today. He kept saying they would be receiving parts last week and the car would be fixed and ready end of the month, which is this week. I got no update on the parts actually arriving other than “we are still expecting the car to be ready end of the month.” which sounded like they had no actual idea if the parts would be coming.
I’m not too confident but let’s see what they say now that their own deadline is approaching. Last edited by juanvco; 08-26-2024 at 10:54 AM.. |

Today’s update from my CA (Thanks Turtle)….
I really thought they should have addressed the sold one first… I don’t know why they went that route, I checked with James our service manager and he said that they are waiting for the parts at this point, I’m checking every day. I too was told this was the week for parts. Maybe I should just order a new one and get the Christmas bow on it??? |

I asked if they would be offering any form of compensation for this whole thing and his reply was basically offering me to cancel and get my signal back or get a X3 with no recall instead of the X1. This choice doesn't make sense to me as the ones they have on the lot are way out of my budget. For me, it is now clear they have no idea of when this fix is going to happen and are just trying to hold as much they can to the deals they were able to make. They don't seem to be willing to offer any discounts for that either. If they did, I would be willing to wait but in my books, you can't just expect your customers to go through all of this and not offer any kind of compensation. Especially in my case where I'm getting a 2024 model with the 2025 models coming soon. I decided to cancel it. I will wait some more months and check back for a 2025 model instead when the dust has settled. |

I’ve had Mercedes before but got tired of their design and I was looking forward to the BMW especially because it had everything I was looking for feature wise and it’s smaller than my current one. I’m not a fan of big cars so the X3 is already way bigger than what I need. The X1 for me was a great combination of features for the price. Not too small but not too big. Maybe I will leave to revisit it next year and get the M version of it. Last edited by juanvco; 08-26-2024 at 02:46 PM.. |

My wife has a new X1 M35i, she thinks that it is a great car, and I have to admit that I also (now after having ut for months) believe that it is indeed a great car. All in the eye of the beholder…

CA - reordered my build for late Sept allocation. CA said I would still have the option of taking the original if it clears. My build isn’t an individual color or anything so guess they think they will have no trouble moving it.

Same happened in my case. The same car was reordered after finding out about the stop sale and my new production date is August 31.

I may be on one of the longest leashes by BMW since I'm on the west coast of the US. My build week was 30, my car has been at the dealer for a week, I'm part of the stop sale, and no ETA in sight for the car. Been over a month and could be another 3-4 weeks given some estimates.
Really starting to weigh a new brand or reordering (which I realize may not be rational, but I'll likely adjust my build a bit based on comments I've seen here). |

The payment terms can be whatever you setup on your prior deal, unless they are incentive based and those incentives run out. |

I thought there was article from Australia saying they lifted the stop sale and just needed to push a update to monitor the IBS system? So shouldn’t US stop sale be lifted soon too?

No, would not be legal to do that in the US as far as we have seen. Those folks, just like Europe, also have to sign a waiver which opens a whole can of legal worms.
