Yes, there is enough room for 4.5 and No, 4 aren't any tight in there.

Maybe I missed it in the posts above but did you also change up the muffler? Looks better than stock.

One thing that bugs me from the back of the M50i is the large muffler unit.

I do have the stock exhaust but this is not a just bolt on application. In post #91 is what I did to make it work on any 4" tips. I had to cut and weld then weld the tips also.

Thank you!

Does the top part of the inner section mount with tabs? And do you need to use 3m tape on tthat section?

I ask because i have tow package. My hope is that the center piece fits over the tow hitch and when i want to use it i can just remove the panel.

They use tabs but the end screws with the other part and no tape. You should b able to remove it easy.

I installed the following tips from Amazon on my XLine 50i and they fit perfectly without any modifications or cutting. Additionally since the tips are straight cut and not diagonal at the end, there was no need to adjust for evenness. The upper lip of the rectangular trim holds them in place firmly to avoid falling off if the upper part is slightly recessed into the trim. YMMV on M models.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0757K9KZM

It was a 2 minute install on all 4 tips.

Great mod. The exhaust looks finished now. Before it looked like BMW forgot to put exhaust tip on or cover up the exhaust. I went with the straight edge tips as well and glad I did as there were none weird issues other seemed to encounter with getting the angle right. I did notch the inner tips on each side to allow them to slide in farther and still stay properly centered on the exhaust. The outer one maybe could have used a bit of notching too but I thought it was good enough. Very easy to do with a Dremel.

Same tips from the link you posted. I picked the black option.

The Amazon ones definitely will fit on. I put them on my M60i yesterday.

I haven’t gotten a second to look at the actual outcome though.

Threw them on in 60 seconds before jumping into my lowering links install and had 0 time after to inspect. Then dropped off at the shop today and forgot to inspect before leaving.

Won’t be able to report back for a couple of weeks but the Amazon ones do definitely at least fit on nice and snug.

As promised, here are the Amazon black ones on my M60i. Did not do any trimming or anything fancy.

More vehicle photos here.

Didn’t work out for me. Just dowsnt look right. The black tips would have been better and might try those. I posted a real m image as well…it’s not even close. The rear exhaust on the x5 m is the only reason I was considering one.
