Objectively, it takes only a few days for a train to get from coast to coast. In theory, it should be doable, but likely assuming the best case scenario.

Yes but they don't run straight through. They switch trains in KC (that may be what Genius is seeing) and also have various stops along the way. Maybe yours will surprise us.

Now the wait and anticipation begins for the next 2-3 weeks. Mine is now showing In Transit as of this morning. Being optimistic with the timeline for the train ride and delivery to the dealership (which fortunately, it is only a 45 minute transport drive from the rail yard to the dealership), it could potentially be there the week of October 9. Can’t wait!

Mine was dispatched from factory yesterday. I called Genius today get some ETAs. They told me the ETA for Kansas City hub is 9/27 and the ETA for the Richmond hub is 10/6. Does anyone know what would be the rough estimate for arrival at the dealer which is located in central California?

If the vehicle is in “Dispatched from factory” status, does that mean that it is not yet in transport to the dealership? I’m assuming that the “In transit” status is the one that directly corresponds to the vehicle being on the train (to California).

Dispatched means that it has left the factory. It will switch to In Transit at some point some. It will then go to At the Port when it hits the rail yard in KC and then back to In Transit when it is on the way to CA.

When I called, she told me about the switch in KC. I want to say it was due there on 25th, but didn’t write it down. Then due in San Bernardino VPC on Oct 2. So that kind of lines up with what the NorCal guy was told, although mine was shipped on 18th and I think he said his was 19th. My dealer also confirmed it was due in early Oct, but didn’t say a date. That’s pretty typical for them (to not give a date)….I think they want to make sure they don’t over promise. I didn’t know about it going to “at the port” when in KC. That’s good to know.

I'm was referring to delivery, not arriving at the West Coast port. bono was told it would be at his dealer on the Oct 1st when it was dispatched on Sept 21st. It doesn't go that fast.

I connected with the dealer. They told me 10/6 at Richmond and then up to one week to drive the car to Mountain View. Ridiculous that the last leg takes that much time, but I am not in rush.

It appears that the Genius I talked with was not a real genius.

Interesting I had not checked my garage in awhile. During our discussion, I looked again and it said “dispatched from factory”. I can’t remember if that is the same as last time I looked. Then I went in about 30 minutes later and it was “in transit”. Do you think that means it hit KC and left already? I don’t remember the status when Genius first told me it was on the Train.

Not likely, when it hits KC it goes into the At the Port status. That usually lasts for a day or so and then goes back to In Transit. I'm not sure but think that the switch from Dispatched to In Transit is either when the rail cars from Spartanburg head to KC after making other stops/connections in SC or when the rail company processes some paperwork.

Called Genius this morning. It did hit KC on Sat and was loaded on train for west coast. Still has VPC arrival of Oct 2.

Car is currently “At the port” and is scheduled to leave VPC tomorrow! Called Genius and they gave me an ETA of October 6 as the date in which it will arrive at the dealer in Irvine, CA. Barring any stop sales, can I usually expect to pick up the vehicle within a day or two of arriving at the dealership? Need to book my flight to California from NYC…

There is no VPC (VDC) in KC. He may be getting accessories so is in the At the Port status prior to being dispatched. That occurs when they go to the Accessories Center after coming off the line. Then again, given the timing and that Genius often does not know what they are talking about, they could have meant the KC rail yard when saying VPC.

Sounds like it. They are probably used to vehicles coming from Germany and there the At the Port is the VDC.

They referred to KC as VPC to me too. That is where I got that from. Your production date was a day later than mine. I think when they say Oct 6 to dealer, they mean to VPC in San Bernardino, because they really have no idea how long it will be at VPC. My i4 cleared customs and left the VPC (Port Hueneme, CA) in 24 hours. But I heard other horror stories of cars being there 3 weeks with no idea why. I don’t know how different the SB VPC is than PH.

My date to VPC is Oct 2. Mine left KC on 23rd, so your timing to VPC in SB (Oct 6) makes sense when you compare my data to yours.

Following up on this, my status changed from “Dispatched from factory” to “In transit” today, which is in line with what others mentioned earlier in the thread about the train reaching the KC hub.

Called and I lost a day. Now Oct 3 arrival at VPC. Dealer says they can get by the 5th, if nothing is wrong with the car. Still, That’s 2 weeks and a day from production to VPC. I think that’s pretty good from what I’ve heard here.
