He's adjusting, sleeping next to me right now.

He seems ok- what gets to me the most is coming up from behind him- he gets really startled because he can't hear me coming, especially if he's napping. So I'm making a conscious effort to make sure he can always see me and I'll whistle loudly so he can pick up on it. Thankfully the swelling in his right ear has gone wayyy down, so looks like he'll only be unilaterally deaf, but at this point- that's a victory I'm willing to accept. One more week of high antibiotics though. They think, since he's a beach dog, one of the times we went surfing- even though I clean his ears out well, bacteria must have infected the inside of his ears. And since I was In Sydney- I couldn't keep cleaning them, which my mom didn't since she wasn't aware we had gone to the beach before I left- may have did him in, but nothing's for certain. That's just what they guess, which sucks because the days of us going to the beach aren't going to happen anytime soon.

So he can hear high pitched sounds? Maybe carry some jingle bells with you to let him know where you are?

Good news about the antibiotics. Labs have ear issues as well, so I'm constantly checking their ears for funk and cleaning them out....

That's a good idea! Yeah, I've noticed any high pitch sound he'll respond to it. But my normal speaking voice- or doors closing or walking doesn't get picked up anymore.

Yeah, they mentioned to clean it every other day, something about cleaning it too often will reverse the affect? But all the gross stuff has been washed out. Just something for me to really keep an eye on from now on. Thankfully, he's starting to be playful again. Finally going for a walk today again after being shut inside all weekend!
