I would assume that BMW NA will go the same way than BMW AG will do in Germany and Europe.
It's safe to still drive these cars, the software update is just planned to increase the sensibility of the sensors. It will just take time for the dealers to install the updates, so this will probably be some bottleneck - at least in the beginning. |

I wonder if someone with knowledge of the US market can chime in here. This breaking system recall that has been present for a while, were cars previously allowed to be delivered with this open recall in the US and the stop sale is now new?
The reason I ask is in the UK the breaking system safety recall has always prevented cars with the issue from being delivered or sold. Some cars are unaffected and I'm sure BMW know which parts they have in them etc. Is it possible that knowing this going forward they have ensured that cars destined for the UK market would not be included in the recall, else they cannot be delivered. If the US didn't prevent the delivery of cars in the recall up until recently I can see them continuing to produce cars with the faulty part for the US market. |

In the UK they were 100% waiting on parts to do the repair and were unable to sell them until they had been done. I know this for definite as I enquired about quite a few CPO X5's and waited a few months for them to be available, in the end gave up and did a new order. |

Unusual news
So I just spoke to my SA. I had checked both BMW recall site and NHTSA site. Both show no open recalls on my X5 built on 8/6 and currently sitting in dealer inventory. My SA checked as well internally and all of his X5 and X7 inventory except mine have the stop sale. He is going to go further up the line. I would rather not pick up the vehicle if there is a potential brake malfunction.
Has anyone else with a recently completed X5 checked and had their vehicle show up as no recall? |

Just a small update. BMW has completed the update. BMW dealers should be able to access it tomorrow.
Deliveries can start tomorrow once the update is installed. The update will just determine if a car is equipped with the faulty part and will turn off some functions. Cars can be safely driven and faulty parts will be replaced through the normal recall process. |

A small range of selected cars is affected by this. I don’t know exactly which functionality is affected but it’s not affecting the core capabilities of the brakes. Rather think of it as small and supportive things that are helpful for the brakes but not essential for them to do their job. |

Also i wonder if this is going to limit some driver assist features. If thats the case even if we pay for the feature we wouldn’t be able to use it until its fixed and it could be few weeks to months until thats available for a replacement. Hopefully it limits the functionality only if its already not working properly.
