Almost like the warbling that can sometimes happen on concrete roads or bridges.

The sound is quite obvious from about 15mph all the way up to 75+, it might get a bit louder with speed but seems to not have much to do with speed. It is worse on rougher road surfaces but always there even on smooth. If the car goes over a bump there is a pulse of the sound that coincides with that. It is clearly audible over the stereo.

I have continental cross contact lx sport 20in, which do not seem to be very common in this thread. I'm going to take a look to see if it has the sound dampers on it & will be talking to the dealer as well. Am feeling a bit dumb for not driving the thing before signing papers.

edit: no dampers, the mounting hole is there.

So I have 20 inch continental crosscontact lx.
I do notice a humming high pitched noise especially when driving in high speeds on the highway. It seems to quiet down with just street driving however.
I wonder if it is the same sound. I havent really tried hard to figure out why though.

They would normally be in that empty hole in the control arm. That’s where they would go if you eventually get them.

Does anyone with 21’s on the 50e actually have any positives with putting these on? Or is it a wash and don’t waist the money?

Just got the parts in yesterday, planning to give it a shot today assuming I can squeeze under the car without a lift/ramps

I have the staggered 21" RFT's. After considerable urging, BMW finally agreed to install the dampeners at their expense. Unfortunately there was no change in the noise.

Are you running Pirelli’s?

I'm ordering the 50e and I'm undecided if 21" are worth it at this point. Owners of 20" tires are complaining much less (if at all) about road noise, from what I read on this thread.

If anyone has a 50e, please let us know what's your experience (independently from tire size).

I have the M, 21", no noise. The car is now perfect after spending 2 months in the shop for the valve problem.

BMW NA corp called me back and acted like they weren’t aware of the issue but when asking me questions (they described the sound I was hearing perfectly) and stated they had to touch bases with the dealer and get back to me. You would think they would be scrambling to find a fix. Will see what happens. We all have to make sure we flood these guys with messages/complaints.

My dealership ordered the dampeners and referenced a BMW Service Bulletin tied to the same well known issue. They will be installed this Wednesday. Candidly, I am not expecting much but will be happy if/when that high pitched resonance over bridges or select surfaces is gone. It's annoying and embarrassing.

My Plan B? Given that I am still very bullish on the X5 50E, I did the research on all season Pirelli's. For reference, they are the SCORPION VERDE A/S. Same exact tire size and also what I had on my Cayenne Turbo. A very nice tire that performed quite well. I will also need to buy the $150-ish BMW tire repair kit. All in all it will be a $2k fix that i am not happy about but know it should work and I will have peace of mind when driving in the rain or snow.

Curious as to what terms did they use to describe the sound. I know what it sounds like but would have a difficult time describing it.

I experienced this road noise in "ridged" highway while driving over 70mph on a 21 M Sport car with a hankook tire - In my post purchase with BMW , I referred to this thread and my feedback for BMW to contact me.

Dealer basically said he had not heard of any complaints and referred me to service.

I think he called it a deep humming sound from the front end. He said something additional to that but can’t exactly remember.

Just picked up my X5 50e yesterday- drove 150 miles from dealership on all sorts of road surfaces and this was a very quiet ride no noise and the air ride suspension made it a dream. I have 20” Continental CrossContact tires on.

I even had two other people in the car and they said it was a very quite and smooth ride.

My Audi’s had more road noise than this X5.

2024 X5 50E road noise is tooo loud

Just picked up our 2024 from the Performance Center, that was a ton of fun. The car is great to drove but the road noise and whistling at 75-80 is annoyingly loud. My 79 Corvette with T Tops was about the same noise level.

This is our first BMW and we are very disappointed with the noise, we expected a car of this class to be very quiet.

Ours has the 20” tires.

Waiting to hear back from the dealer as to when I can bring it in

Sounded more like the "driving on a cement bridge" noise that has been mentioned previously in this thread. I'm going to try installing those dampers (with the proper nut and bolt parts mentioned earlier) and see if that makes a difference now that I know a particular road to test on.
Installed the dampers this morning, will do some testing in the afternoon to see if I can tell any subjective difference.

Pirelli run flats, 20”

My noise issue seems to be more wind noise than vibration

I have an X5 50e with run-flat 21’s (Pirelli P Zero) and I hear the loud “hollow echo” noise coming from the wheel well. When I’m on asphalt it’s non-existent, but on the cement pavement it’s loud…especially when there are cracks or separations in the cement slabs…I hear a loud thump thump thump as I go over each crack.

I hope that there is a solution to this.
