Got 07/2020.80 OTA upgrade last night. Flawless and no issues so far.

My car is in the process of going to 07.2020.80.
On the connected app it is telling me to "Connect to Vehicle"
"please connect to your BMW via Wi-Fi, The upgrade will be transferred automatically."
I'm not sure what that means? Leave my phone in the car with the connected app open?

Just makes sure it is connected and go about your business. When it is ready to install it will notify you when you shut it down.

You can connect to the vehicles WiFi to transfer.

If you have an iOS device:

Launch Settings > Wi-Fi > Select your BMW's Wi-Fi SSID

Upgraded from 11/2019.70 to 07/2020.80 today.

No glitches so far! Love the apple map direction in OHD.

I am in California and it's 2020 X540i built in 09/2019.

Did mine last night, too...in CA, too...

Just had to restart the app and car for them to synch. Remote 3D, lock, etc would not work right after the update until i restarted both.

I was having trouble getting the 07/2020 update to show up on my 03/2020 X5. I called the BMW Genius telephone number and they added my VIN to get the update. It showed up on my car in a few minutes and I am downloading the update to my phone now.

My upgrade to 07/2020.80 worked today.
I tried Android Auto with my Note 8 (android 9) and that is working. Only spent a few minutes with AA though.

Did you talk to CD support, or something else? I chose the option for ConnectedDrive from the Genius hotline menu, which just seems to transfer me to BMW Assist. Will see what they say once I have an agent.

Live updates, woo this is fun:

-CD agent isn't aware of this; checking with BMW Genius now

-Genius told CD agent there isn't way to be put on any list or manually mark it for an update. Options are to ask the dealer to update it (which mine declined) or wait for the update to show up.

I chose ConnectedDrive and then option 7. Someone answered right away. The person was not a "Genius", she said she was going to have me go through the update steps with her before I got transferred to a Genius. She did take the last 6 digits of my VIN and then i assume that she did something on her end to allow my X5 to see that 07/2020.80 was available. I was on 03/2020.69 before the update. It's funny because I was getting a little short with the person who helped me because I felt like we were just doing the same things i did 50x before, but she did something on her end to allow my X5 to see the July update so I am grateful. We got disconnected so I never got a chance to thank her or confirm it worked.

I have been checking every time I get in the car and until today it has always been "No update is available". At the start of the call, she told me that my X5 was on the latest update. That's when I got a little rude with her and made it clear that 03/2020.xx was not the latest update.

This really pissed me off because i left my car for the entire day at Pacific BMW and they returned it without the update. SA could have told me that they wouldn't do it unless i basically made something up.

Mine was at Pac BMW too. I changed my guage display with bimmercode because I have a base X5 and the service rep started hassling me "where did I get this car from" etc. I informed him from "you".. just like the 540, 330, 440, 428, 335, and 320 before my X5, that were all from "you". His attitude pissed me off because they know people like to tweak their cars, and a fucking gauge cluster display that just changes a 0 to 1 in software that already exists is no reason to be rude.

Anywho, they gave me shit that the whole vehicle has been modified and the software isn't original blah blah blah, while it was in for a known issue with the satellite tuner not showing. I said whatever just reset the settings and fix the satellite radio. But tl;dr, yes they refused to upgrade the vehicle software because BMW needs to approve it.

Well, at least in LA we can go to a number of dealerships. It's been a PIA trying to get iDrive updates for my 540i and my X5. At least with the X5, OTA updates will be an option for me (i hope). The whole ordeal is one of the reasons why I will be getting a Tesla Model S to replace the 540i. I hate the whole dealership middle man business model. Give me direct sales and a company that understands how to push software updates to owners. F dealers.

I don't have much to add than the rest you but I was really looking forward to getting this update without having to badger the dealer to do it with some bullshit excuse so I wouldn't have to pay for it.

I'm looking forward to using Apple Maps for directions and see how sparse the HUD directions are compared to the iDrive NAV. I'm very happy to set a climate control rule for the steering wheel heater. I also cant wait to explore all the new BMW assistant commands that came into fruition with this update.

so far ive gotten 'turn on the A/C' to turn on all 4 zones without having to push the SYNC button. I also feel like the assistant prompt is snappier than it was before the update but that may just be empiric.

07/2020.80 fixed the bug where the Automatically set time checkbox was greyed out. Now I can check and uncheck it. The Apple Maps turn by turn directions in the HUD and instrument panel is also nice.

how does the apple maps HUD data compare to what you get from idrive? i've yet to try this.

on another note, the previous iterations of the ConnectedDrive app used to have this handy feature where you could be in any other map app and 'send' the directions to the connected drive app. it worked great in imessages and anything that ios recognized as a map address. but then they took it out. i miss it.

Not nearly as robust. It basically just shows the directions and perhaps some arrows. I only tested it on one short drive and it was enough for me to determine that iDrive Nav was the way to go.

I wonder if that's just crappy apple integration or BMW purposefully limiting it to incentivize using their own maps. Now that they've gone to cloud based navigation themselves, there really isnt much difference between what Apple is providing and what iDrive gets, except of course that CarPlay is profoundly less integrated.

The bmw poi's in the U.K. are rubbish.

If I want to use bmw Nav to get to a new location, more often that not I'll have to fire up apple maps to find the business address, which it then hands off to bmw nav.

So frustrating asking it via voice to find a common well known business, for it to then constantly fail. You can't tell if it's misunderstood the voice command, so I then type the name which confirms it knows nothing. 5 minutes wasted. Rubbish!

I'd love google maps to integrate with idrive and the drive assist, like it does with Tesla. BMW has never been able to do navigation, they should give it up and pay google to do it for them.

Instead of retyping my whining, I'll just post an old link to a couple. Nothing has improved and BMW navigation still names major Canadian city roads by their RR (Rural Road) designation numbers (that no one knows) rather than their well known and city labelled names.

I'll post a picture. The HUD screen is much larger than I thought and there is room for providing more than just direction arrows. It is not terrific at this stage, but I see the potential with future versions.
