That's more than the rated range with the full battery enabled there, just like 38 is more than the rated 31 the EPA rates it at.

Now, whether it's worth it to you, can't say. The likelihood of decreasing the battery life, though, is real. There's a reason why the battery warranty outside of the US is shorter.
Part of the reason why I unlocked mine is that I'm not keeping this car more than a couple of years. Battery life is not a concern.

Some colder weather updates, temps back to high 20s/low 30s...range down to 39/40 miles under this weather. Highest charge shown was 49 with 60s

Flashed my vehicle this morning and went from 10mi remaining to 23mi remaining after the flash. 23mi appeared to be at almost exactly 50% on the visual meter. It's about 50 degrees here this morning.

Plugged it in and says 4 hrs 5 min to go from 49% to 100%.

Interesting in doing this, would love the extra 20 miles. Can you easily flash back to stock yourself, if you need to take care in for service, or trade it in, etc.?

My understanding is yes, though I doubt I'll do it until I sell it. Putting the flash on there took less than 15 seconds and I assume reloading the backup would be similar. As an update, I'm at 84% charged and 43mi of range.

If the EU spec supports a higher usable battery capacity that means the battery was originally designed for that. I cant see how unlocking the EU spec capacity can hurt the battery.

Can you specify how much you want unlocked?

For 45e to charge overnight to get 30 mile range is it mandatory to have level2 charger or level 1 good enough?

The EU has a shorter battery warranty than the US does...it would be a major selling point to make it longer, so there is likely a good reason why they shortened it.

If you use the level 1 device that comes with the US vehicle, no, you won't get a full charge in a typical overnight. If you have a 20A, dedicated 120vac receptacle available, and bought a level 1 device that could output 16A, then yes, you could, but a level 2 device at similar amperage will be faster, and, the conversion IN the vehicle from ACV to DCV needed to charge the batteries is more efficient when using 240vac versus 120vac (level 2 versus level 1).

So, depends on what you want. NOte, if you aren't using all of the battery capacity on a daily basis, you might be able to fully recharge, but if it's at zero indicated, no, it could take upwards of 19-hours or so with the supplied device in the USA.

I did, there are two levels you can unlock, EU spec and maximum capacity.

he initially chose max capacity but kept getting errors, so they decreased it to 23kWh. whether or not that's true is unknown, but that's what he told me. on an ideal day he gets 60+ miles of electric range on a full charge.

nZtiZia I am not sure if you are referring to the same guy from the FB group, but I was messaging with one guy on FB who did the flash. He actually tried to unlock the full capacity but after having his whole dashboard light up with warning nights, asked Mission Performance to reflash with EU spec (21.6 kWh). I also did an EU spec flash back in January. I don’t think they offer a 23 kWn option unless something changed since January.

With the EU spec flash, you get about 40-50 miles when it’s in 60s-70s T outside in stop and go local driving. You only get 60-70 miles when it’s like 70-80 F outside and you drive 50-55 mph on the highway.

That feel to be the person who buys it used from him when he's done with the car

I am going to wait to see the new specs of the 2023 X5 50e before deciding what to do. If the $7500 federal tax rebate is still applicable I may upgrade.

Not sure how true the rumors are but apparently it will have 480hp (confirmed) with a 70-80 mile electric range (speculation), that's pretty significant of a difference if accurate.

the EU spec of the 45e could get about 50 miles, 20-30 more miles is not that far fetched.

Energy density has been increasing, so it's possible new cells could have more range in a new version. That would almost dictate a bigger onboard charger. Previously, prices stayed about the same for the cells, but with the way things are going, that is not a given, so the cost/benefit ratio may not be good.
