E90 xdrive transmission removal

Attempting to drop the auto trans on my e90 335i xdrive. Do I have to drop the transfer case with the trans to get it down? Would it not be possible to do without either removing the transfer case first or dropping them together? Suggestions are welcome

remove the transfer case first. Its easy and gives you more room.
