Weird-O-Rama but you are correct! Good catch! I hadn't tested it that way before and I sure hope this is a mistake by BMW but somehow am of the opinion its their way to force people into the higher priced packages.

Ok, all that configuration stuff aside, you really need to change dealerships, buying a car doesn't need to be this difficult and remember, you have not actually fully purchased it yet, this is the best they are going to treat you!

I had an order that was originally entered about a week and a half ago with Executive Package 2, which did not include HK. My dealer was able to modify my order yesterday to add HK as a standalone option for $750 alongside Executive Package 2. I have no idea if that will stick, but it does show it on My Garage now.

Do you remember exactly what stage your order was in when the change was applied? Pre or Post VIN?

I am sure you cannot change configuration once VIN is assigned. Mine was changed at production to be scheduled that is before vin assignment.

My order was (and still is) in order status 111 Order Received. I do not yet have a VIN assigned. My allocation is supposed to be for an April build, but who knows what will happen with it.

Got my VIN today, so I guess it's HK and no air suspension. Ordered 2/19. Re-added HK last weekend.

I came to grips with the air suspension... the HK would have made me lose sleep so glad it seems to be there still ("scheduled for production" phase). My order was 2/22 so hoping I'm right there with you soon with a VIN!

Same here I haven't test driven air suspension so not sure what I am missing. I have 21" wheel on my build.

I will very soon take delivery of my X5 which WILL have the HK system. To be absolutely sure it is actually installed, are there any HK indicators that I can look for to assure that it is in fact an HK system? Are HK emblems of speaker grills? Are there system information in idrive7 somewhere?

Front door speaker grills have "Harman Kardon" emblems just like the photo on the configurator website.

Yes. It is standard on the M50i and X5 M.

I tried ordering a X5 40i today and was told Harmon/Kardon is not available. No ETA of when it will be available again due to the chip shortage in the whole industry.

It's not as clear cut, as it has been available as a standalone, my 45e that was built last week and is now in transit has Executive Package 2 and HK as a standalone add on. It is new news if HK is no longer available as a standalone, which appears to be the case, along with the M package.

Well known but it also has been back for a bit. The shortage initially reported had only lasted for about 10 days. But now there's a shortage again and you can't spec HK.

They probably have to keep the few HK systems they get for M50i’s and X5M versions and can’t afford to offer to a wider audience and then not be able to deliver on the high end cars (pure speculation).
