It's back on the website now. Executive package had also disappeared for a while but that's back now too for the x5. But for the X7, no premium, executive or HK

I have a 45e xLine order I placed about 2 weeks with HK sound system in my build...I logged in to the BMW tracking website yesterday to check my build status and they had removed the HK option without any notification.

Fingers crossed it gets added back in before my June build date but hearing it might be out until MY22.

I hope so...My 45e is in production status with a VIN. Automated website says it will be finished in a week. All the options are there on the status page. The original order was in 1 month ago, but the dealer's allocation wasn't until next week so it entered production about a week ago. Hopefully once it has a VIN all the options will be there... In the end, TurtleBoy is right but depending on your dealer, they may try hard to get you to take the car with the base audio system and will tell you all sorts of reasons why you don't need the HK system. Dealers are in the business to sell cars, not necessarily make you happy. However, like I mentioned, TurtleBoy is right, its not what you ordered and therefore you do not need to take it and you can get your deposit back.

I was on the build site this morning and the HK system was still on there and it allowed me to select it but as of this writing, its gone. To be prepared for the conversation, it would do you well to go listen to the base audio system in an X5 and see what you think, it might be just fine for you and only you matter so go do some homework.

I have the base audio in my 40i now and upgraded to the bavsound system. Significant difference in clarity and low end. Compared to the HK though, I would say the bavsound system is comparable. I think the HK has better clarity in the higher frequencies but lacks low end. And the bavsound is the opposite. For me the issue with settling for the base system is that I don't think it is "surround sound" and you lose two tweeters.

I placed an order for the xDrive40i on Monday and noticed that the HK option wasn't on the list, despite having it on my original build sheet....

May look into aftermarket upgrades if the standard Hi-Fi system is as bad as everyone says it is.

The day before I ordered my car HK was dropped, a couple days before I received my VIN it was available again but my SA messed around and took too long to verify it so I lost out. I'd prefer the HK but now that I have my car and listen to the base HiFi I think it's acceptable. Depending the source quality, the type of music, and the volume it can sound very good. The main problem is that it has minimal punch on the lower end and if you turn it up too loud it can get harsh. Normal listening levels with all windows closed it's fine, my wife sees no issues with it and I don't spend a lot of time in the car anyway. Before I accepted delivery I looked into aftermarket installation of a better HiFi, have done that in past cars, and there are very good options starting around $3000 installed to get sound that rivals B&W, albeit with fewer speakers. So good that your friends will want to hang out in your car to hear it. So I have upgrade options but presently I'm fine. I don't want to keep cars past their factory warrantees anymore so I'm less inclined to spend more money now and just wait for the next car.

I'm not providing anything new, but from a UK perspective my X5 got assigned a build slot yesterday and my dealer phoned me today to say that HK was no longer an option and wouldn't be until MY22 at the earliest (in their view). They didn't know whether B&W was still an option, but the component shortage has also removed EBT and wireless charging from current builds.

Not sure what EBT is but wireless charging still shows up on my order on the BMW garage.... Hopefully that does not change but not the end of the world if it does....

For those of us who do enjoy a surround sound type of system in our vehicles there sure is alot more than HK out there. Do you think BMW has checked into the JBL, BOSE, etc., options?

There are more and more articles about the microchip shortages, that impact not only BMW, but the whole auto industry, phone industry, computer and game consoles industry, etc.
It seems like there is a lot of catch up to do for the manufacturers (not that many companies in the whole world).
It is just a suggestion for buyers interested, maybe try cars already on the lot. Might have most of packages you want and save you a lot of stress and uncertainty.

Enhanced bluetooth. Oddly despite being told it's gone, it's on my order sheet still. I've been told (in the U.K.) the tech pack is gone but you can spec back individual options to the build. B&W is still available as well, in conjunction with the sky lounge. Now debating what to do

EBT = Enhanced Bluetooth

I can report the same on My Garage; I still see EBT and Wireless Charging.

Also, my CA inquired about the B&W option and was told no for my 45e on order.

I'm sure they have a contract with HK and B&W that they wouldnt switch over just because of the shortages. Also, they all brag about how much R&D goes into the designing the sound system for the vehicle to make it sound good, wherein you cant just swap out one manufacterer for another.
