That is correct. HK is only available on the M50i.
This is what I was told as well plus the 40i Vermillion. I decided I was too old for the Vermillion and chose the M50. Two more days! I hope.
What dealer still has a vermillion? I would love to get one.

I spoke with my SA a couple weeks ago and he thought HK would be coming back to the X5 40i and 45e in the second half of this year, perhaps going along with the mid-cycle refresh. I think this was just his speculation though. He did say BMW would update the online configurator as soon as HK becomes available, since they want to let people know that it is available.

The refresh isn’t until next year.

Wow, HK is indeed back on the X5 45e. I just checked the US configuratior. Thank you!

For the model re-fresh, yes I believe my SA was referring to mid-cycle re-fresh occurring for the 2023 model year.

That is not correct, as mentioned above, the refresh isn't until next year which is the 2024 model year.

Man, where is Radio Shack when you need it. A major luxury brand offering a no name brand sound system is a sin!

The HK is a convenient, competitively-priced solution for someone who wants a little more range, bass, and volume than the standard Hi-Fi.

Its presence is noticeable, even if it doesn't perform like custom aftermarket installations (which, if done properly, have price tags in the several thousands, if not tens-of-thousands, of dollars).

A true audiophile would probably hate on the B&W system, too!

It like listening to music behind a stage curtain very muffled and the louder you turn it up the more distorted it gets . Honestly it's not even acceptable for a car Priced in this range Honestly the HK is not even worth its price as an upgrade If there's anything gonna be standard it should be the HK very subpar

differing opinion

I have to respectuflly disagree. the HK is adequate as far as i'm concerned. In my 530i that is being returned next month, it was fine for the last 3 years and I listen to a TON of music. Yes, a 5k upgrade custom system would be amazing, but I don't need to dump 5k into the car stereo when i'm in it for 30 mins a day.

My disagreement is whether it's worth it. For $875, It is 100% worth it. The HiFi is utter garbage. We ended up with it in my wifes 430i as that was the car available and it was really completely unlistenable. I changed the amp and all speakers myself and it's pretty great. but not exactly any better the HK. My 2 cents anyways. You know what they say about opinion. Just adding to the discussion in case it help anyone choose. If you're not going to do a massive custom install, At least toss in the HK. $875 isn't really that much on this.

Have to say I got the B&W sound system with my recent order as the HK was unavailable. I was skeptical as I'm pretty demanding for good sound, always had top-tier after market audio systems in my vehicles. The B&W is excellent. Only critical thing I could say is more bass could be warranted for me, but I've always enjoyed the thump of 10 inch frequency drivers before. Nevertheless, the two 8 inch subs under the seats do very well. The SPL is more than ample for those that like distortion free high volume and the balance of frequencies throughout is very good. To get the most out of it, digital flac recordings sound very different than the radio sources and that's where the B&W really shines. Worth the upgrade, IMO.

No doubt the B&W is orders of magnitude better than HK.

But it requires quite a few more pennies.

I've been impressed with it the few times I've heard the B&W in other cars. In fact, when I was ordering last spring, I opened up my piggy bank and was willing to cover the B&W cost if BMW would have made it available (as HK wasn't), but alas they said go pound sand. Fortunately, I snagged one of the last HK 45es off the line...

Personally, I find very few flaws with the B&W and would be overjoyed to have that option, but I'm more of a B+ audio student; I'm sure the A+ kids can point out its shortcomings.

The B&W is one of those over-priced luxury options I think. Let's face it, it's an expensive add on over the HK when you make your order. I've heard the HK and it's no slouch either. All comes down to individual wants/needs, absolutely nothing wrong with being a B+ audio student. I still crank my tunes like I was in my twenties, so it was a pleasant surprise to see what the B&W could do when tuned to my likes. Reminiscent in sound to Focal and Audison products (which I really like), which is pretty good.

I would have been very happy to pay up for the B&W, but it was never an option on the 45e. I'll give the HK a long test drive, and if necessary swap out the speakers (and maybe amp) if it proves inadequate

to clarify, B&W was never an option for the 'US' 45e, though it's offered in Canada and some EU countries. lucky them, eh? i would've optioned it if was offered to us
