STD 19" RFTs mileage and more

About to sign a lease for my new X5 4.0 xDrive. What mileage can I expect out of the std 19"s. And on a side note... it seems that almost every car I see offered has 20" tires. If all I care about is comfort and mileage is there something I am overlooking when going for the 19"s. Should I be convinced otherwise?

You can expect the same mileage from both (They're both rated ~ 50k miles, does not mean you will get the full 50k from them, maybe 35k). The 20s will force you into getting the Convenience Package.

Depends on what your goal is. If its to save money and you could care less about the looks of the car 19s are fine.

19" BMW OEM R/F All-Season tires have a treadwear rating of 480-500AA. You realistically canget 32-38K miles on an OEM set. Some members might get more tread life - just depends on your region, road conditions, maintaining tire pressure, etc. My last gen F15 X5 with Michelin OEMs needed a new set at 38K miles and I pushed the set pretty hard LOL.

What tire you receive from the factory is a lottery but here's the list:

1. BRIDGESTONE ALENZA SPORT A/S RFT - 500AA
2. MICHELIN PRIMACY MXM4 ZP - 500AA
3. CONTINENTAL CROSSCONTACT LX SPORT SSR - 480AA
4. PIRELLI SCORPION ZERO ALL SEASON RUN FLAT - 500AA

Note OEM Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Seasons R/F comes with a manufacturer road hazard policy for the first 10K miles. I've had 2 OEM Pirelli's AS RF on my MY20 40i M Sport replaced under the Pirelli road hazard warranty by my dealership.

I think most dealers and a lot of forum members would select 20" over 19" - for the looks. X5 is a large vehicle and 20" looks visually appropriate for a vehicle this large. Wheel aesthetics are subjective but I like the 20" xLine option - nice polished face to match the silver trims and easier to wash LOL.

FYI overall tire and wheel diameter is relatively the same (with in + / - 0.2") as your upgrade to 20, 21 and 22" wheel sizes. It's just the tire sidewall height is reduced when increasing wheel size.

As mentioned earlier, my MY20 G05 40i M Sport with air suspension rides on 20" and it's a very comfortable ride. Other members comment the same with air suspension + 21, 22" wheel options.

If you're looking at a xLine 40i, drive one with 20" and see if meets your comfort needs.
