New Owner - Tint Day!

Finally re-joined the BMW family with a new m50i in Arctic Grey. Got her tinted today. Loving the car so far, just can't wait to get through break in period!

Only debate is to swap for black 21's or keep the existing bi-color 20s on it... What say you?

Congrats, looks sharp. I personally have the black wheels with the red brakes and it looks awesome! I think it will dial your ride in very nicely with that option.

21s looks the best in terms of proportion, imo... but finding tires options is a not fun. we ended up getting a set of 20s for winter trips

Stay on the 20's, you wont regret it in the long term. I have exactly the same wheels as you, and my reasoning is three-fold:
1. Nice balance of ride quality and looks. The 20's absorb road road bumps/holes and gives you a nice soft ride.
2. Its almost impossible to damage the 20's from hitting low/hidden curbs and getting wheel rash. The 20's have large side walls.
3. Heaps of options when replacing tyres. Very limited options when replacing 21's and 22's.

22s!!
Although you have limited tire options, they are great looking wheels.
Also your 20s are RFT, do you have a spare on board? Something to consider as 21s and 22s are non-RFT.

our 21s are run flats oem. we have a spare, but good point if considering 22s

LOVE IT! My MY21 Arctic Gray M50i should be here by mid March and I chose red calipers as well to change it up. My 2020 40i has blue calipers and if it helps your decision, I powder coated the 740m wheels satin black and I think it looks great. I will do the same for my M50i. Enjoy the ride!

Nice, those painted 740's!
I have the 748's which I also like and are great for ride comfort being 20"
I do however have the "summer" set with 305 rear tires and not the square setup

Personally I’d stay with the 20” for the ability to find replacements and having All Weather tires. I don’t want to store and replace my tires every winter but that’s me.

I have 21s. Replacement tires are too much of a pain. I'm looking for 20s in a square setup as we speak.

I agree. Maybe if I lived in Florida or CA. Living in Colorado and going up to ski constantly , it was a no brainer for me.

I just dropped my 740m's off today to get powder-coated gloss black. I've seen a pics of Artic Gray with the gloss black wheels are they look great!

Little under $800 to have the wheels powder coated.

Yup, was hard to argue with. Debated about tracking down some 21's, but decided the square 20" setup would provide the best comfort and tire size availability. For the price, to change up the look, couldn't pass it up.

I got rid of my x3 M40i to get something that rode better, so i'm trying hard to not destroy the ride on the X5 50i. At least i got the nice V8 to have fun with though

That is correct , at least for a few weeks as I will sell my 2020 after I take delivery. Even the dealer trade-in is pretty fair and then I get the tax benefit , so it's almost a wash and less hassle. I just know I'll always want that V8, so no time like the present!
