I had this same problem. I'm tall so the front seat sits low. With the table it is literally on top of the child seat in the back. Way too low for any purposeful use. I bought the head rest piece on Amazon and it's manageable now. I think BMW just used the same table, didn't take into account that the mounting location is one foot lower.

Which version of the tray table are we talking about?
I received 51952449252 (2016 - current) from BMW (was a compensation for something else) to use in my X5 with Travel &Comfort pack. This one supersedes the previous version nr 51952183853 (2011 - 2016) Wondering if the new version has a better height? I would test it, but still waiting for my car... I have two of these. And they can only be lowered not raised.
So they are useless with a childseat or for adults unless you buy the headrest Mount. If you are able to put the driver seat in a raised and straight position it might work too. For my children (9 and 10) it works fine with my normal seat position. |

I did look at the table and it might be possible to reverse the adjustment slider on the back to raise the mount quite a bit. However, it would require either disassembling it or cutting off the end of the track which stops the mount from coming off the base of the table. I didn't want to cut into my brand new $120 table so I just left it alone. |

I'm wanting to do the same thing for my 5 year old and 2 year old on an upcoming trip. However, the one hurdle is my 2 year old won't be able to navigate the movies. Is there a way we can control the iPad from the passenger seat so my wife doesn't have to contort to grab the iPad so that she can navigate to the movies, etc? Has anyone developed a good work around for this specific use case?

I was about to say this. Yes, Hey Siri works. You can also use Siri to play, pause, raise volume etc…although something like play Dora the Explorer will likely present many options and you have to pick the one you want…for a 5 year old it won’t be an issue.
Also, why using the table and placing a tablet on it instead of the iPad mount is easier if you need to reach back |

If it helps, I just put a full post in the X7 forum of each of the Travel & Comfort components. Answers questions about the tablet holders and cases.
