Why isn't my car telling me to change the oil?

I bought a new G05 last year. I have about 12K miles on it, and the car is not telling me to change the oil. I just went on my BMW connected app on my phone and it says next oil change due in Oct 2020 or 2,500 mi. What gives? Does this mean 2500 miles from 0 or in the next 2500 miles? I've had BMW's for the last 20 years, and they always tell me when to change the oil. Also, does BMW include oil changes? I know it used to. Didn't purchase any additional maintenance at time of purchase. Thanks.

What did the dealer say? And yes, oil changes are included

I didn't call the dealer yet, cause I'm worried that I should have for some reason known to take it in earlier. I would assume the car will tell me when to schedule. Is it normal for the car to be taken in that many miles in?

Definitely seems on the high side for sure, but I wouldn't worry about what the dealer thinks. Just take it in and tell them the vehicle never notified you of an oil change due.

I'm curious if the car is monitoring the oil condition and you fall into the category of change oil every 12 months instead of 10k miles since the condition of the oil is still good. I'm guessing October 2020 is 12 months after you bought your car, or car was built.

All newer BMW models utilize condition based servicing logic. If you go to the vehicle status menu, it will tell you when certain things need to be done, including oil changes. Oil changes are based on two factors: time since last one (BMW will change it at 12-months, regardless of miles as part of the service plan), or when it calculates it is needed. That calculation depends on the duration of trips, how much stop and go miles are on it, and how many highway miles are on it. Unless you are driving in an area that gets dust storms, it should be safe to just go with the computer's recommendations and those could vary easily by over 10K miles between the min/max value.

The 2500-miles is from 'now' when the service is needed. FWIW, it could say that same value for many thousands of miles if you were to take a marathon, long-distance drive. I've had mine at a static level for over 4K miles when I did a cross-country drive which was much different than my more typical routine.

Your engine uses a pretty large amount of oil, nearly twice the volume of some other brands, so it doesn't get worked as hard and there's more additives in the mix to help it last longer (along with it being pure synthetic which doesn't degrade as fast as the 'real' stuff.

our X6M 50i had 8000 miles on it and we took it in for an oil change. They told us it had another 3000+ before it needed changing. My answer was on my Vette with Mobile One I don't go 10K. This Hot V engine runs hotter than most and from what I've read and has oil issues. They did the change with out any further questions.

Did you ever end up taking it to the dealer?

They asked my to come in under 5,000 miles. And when I say "they" I mean the car did every single time I fired it up!
