Why create another thread with the same question when you could have "bumped" up your first one?

By wanting to go with a higher sidewall - are you looking for summers or all-seasons? Yes, there are more options going from 275/35R22 to 275/40R22 but you'll have a harder time find a matching rear tire - 315/30R22 to 315/35R22 (same size of X7 with staggered rear). 22" rear tire options are super limited. https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1796468 If you're wanting 22" all seasons and staying the same size then there's only really one choice

NYC really isn't known for it's fantastic streets...a larger wheel will be less compliant, a stiffer ride, and more prone to damaging a wheel and tire if (probably when) you hit a pothole.
With X-drive, the rolling diameter of all four tires must be very close to the same or you can damage the all-wheel drive mechanism. When you change from the OEM factory choices, the speedometer and odometer will be less accurate, so that may be a factor to you. But, should you opt for one of the factory OEM choices, you should be able to do that without issues. Note, depending on the brakes you have on the vehicle, there may also be some limitations on your choices to ensure things fit. |

THANKS - I saw the p zero & nitto A/S tires...
I wondered if the A/S vs the summers were any different in terms of protecting the rims from damages its a lease the idea is to not g often to replace the (Rims) if they get damaged. i don't see the tires getting damaged unless you really hit a bad hole & i don't know how bmw rim/tire insurance works - they bumped up the prices for N.J/NYC cause of possibly so many claims |

As mentioned earlier going +5 sidewall and overall tire size is challenging as there are less options for the rear.

Also there might be a clearance issue with higher sidewall height and larger overall tire diameter. Despite your dealer warning, it's not going to void your warranty. When you do turn in your leased vehicle, you have to turn the vehicle back with the original tire sizes.

X-drive will likely be damaged if the wheel/tire combo you choose are different in diameter F/R. Ideally, they'd be exactly the same, but need to be within about 1-2% max difference, and equal is better. If you do damage one tire/wheel, to keep the old versus new ones within that range, you might need to replace them as a set, rather than just one, depending on how worn they are. The other option is to have the new one ground down so it's the same as the old ones, but obviously, you'd lose that life out of it, but would equal the others, so you can replace them as a set once they all wear out.
If you get summer tires on your vehicle, you can damage them when it gets cold out, and you'll have almost no traction in the snow or ice. Plain traction even on a cold, dry road with summer tires, will mean your braking and cornering capacity will decrease. Maybe not critical unless you get into an emergency situation...the thing about an emergency is that you can't plan for it. You hope it never happens, but you have no control, in this case, almost literally. |
