Trailer hitch package

Does this package include a ball mount bar and hitch ball? Wondering if I should keep the one I have or let it go with the vehicle I am giving up.

Looking at the images, the US version does not come with a ball as far as I see, someone owning it can confirm. The European version I believe has the stealth design which has the ball by default

I have this package, it didn't come with either components you mentioned, just a tow hitch rubber cover.

Guess I’ll keep the one that came with my Acura MDX. Most folks don’t ever use a hitch anyway.

I'm fairly sure the vast majority use the hitch for racks of various kinds, like bike racks. Still, there's a good number who tow. The car still has a pretty decent tow rating and members on here have reported no problems towing good sized trailers (that are within the limits of course).

Yep, most use of mine has been for a bike rack. I occasionally hitch a utility trailer at my cabin which replaced my need for a pickup

The nice thing about the trailer hitch if you do tow anything is that there is a stealth trailer tow mode that changes some settings in the car when you plug in any wiring harness.

What do you mean by “stealth” trailer tow mode?

I am going to call BMW and see if they can halt my order. If I cannot carry a bike or two, this is kinda stupid.

Not sure why you think you can’t haul bikes. The rack should slide right into the receiver hitch.

A trailer hitch can always be added. Trailer mode can also be activated thru the main menu.

IF you get an add-on trailer kit from a dealer now, you get basically the same style hitch (non-motorized) that the factory came with. BMW does NOT offer a bike rack add-on for THIS type of hitch.

I wanted a factory system that integrates with the factory wiring and all the coding. This is what you get now:

Ah. The US system is entirely different.

No clue how you came to this conclusion, however, you can carry bikes, tow a trailer, etc.

Guys, the unit I posted is what BMW will install in my area. I had no idea it was NOT the tube type. Wherever you are getting the tube type as an add-on from BMW, WHERE is it that you are getting that, from BMW?

Why do I need to buy a trailer for two or three mountain bikes, when there are 100 or so 2" adaptable hitch units on the market?

This seems crazy to me. I cannot imagine putting 2 or 3 mountain bikes on a roof.

BMW seems to have really missed the boat on this hitch.
