How does the '19 x5 compare to the GLE350?
I just drove a 2016 Gle350 and I wasn't impressed at all. The leather felt hard and fake and while the pickup was great, nothing about the drive wowed me. Overall the interior of my 2017 XC90 felt much more luxurious.
Those that have driven both. How does the 2019 x5 compare? I've sat in the x5, but havent really had a test drive. Thank you |

The GLE is a very old design now and is going to be replaced by a truly new model (vs. the current GLE, which is really just a refresh of the 2011 ML). The 2020 version should be very competitive with the new X5, but unsurprisingly, the X5 is light years ahead of the current model. Only reason I can think of to get the GLE is if there is a fantastic deal on the table.
I particularly dislike the interior of the current GLE. As you say, it feels cheap, and it really looks dated. Again, not surprising that the XC90 seems more luxurious (I had a 2017 XC90 T8), since it was a brand new design for 2016 and the cabin is much more contemporary in look and feel. Quote:

As a driver of the XC90, how would you compare the interior to the new x5? Unfortunately I didn't get the leather dash (my car went into production already) but I did get the extended merino leather. Thank you |

I think the XC90 interior is perhaps more stylish, but the overall quality of the X5 seems higher, and it is much better in terms of wind noise and overall refinement. Also, I really found the sensus touchscreen to be too slow and unresponsive (and I think Volvo has added more processing power in the new V60 in response to this criticism), so that in daily use it was frustrating.
The interior space in the XC90 is definitely better. The ability to slide the second row was great for fitting a rear-facing car seat and still having good room for the front passenger, for example, and I do think Volvo has done a better job than anyone of creating seven usable seats in a relatively compact package. The biggest downside to my XC90 was its horrendous reliability. I had about 11 warranty repairs in 14 months of ownership, including two complete failures of the air suspension system, a sudden loss of all power that left me stranded and blocking a busy street, as well as various other less serious but irritating warning lights that required dealership visits.
