Also took delivery this week, had steering intervention activate in the rain and take me totally by surprise.
I think part of the issue is the driver gets no visual indication that the car is making a correction - for example in the HU Display. That seems like an easy fix. Also the software should identify when the car is under full control and limit the intervention. |

Not sure if this has already been discussed, but there was a delivery stop ordered for about 2k vehicles built between the end of Sept and end of Oct. Apparently it was to reprogram the KAFAS module, which may explain a lot of what you guys are experiencing. Erroneous, extreme, and unexpected behaviors from the vehicle.
May want to check with your dealer to see if you have an affected vehicle. Delivery stop was effective 10/25/18 for Sep 18 - Oct 25 build dates. There may have been an earlier or later bulletin associated with same issue, but this is the one I'm aware of. Last edited by ppagiga; 11-28-2018 at 12:50 PM.. |

It pushed me so hard on my test drive I thought I was going to crash. I have it on my Tahoe and it simply gives you a little vibration when your outside the lines. This version seems outright dangerous. It actually deterred me from placing an order

Surely BMW can fix this
I'm assuming BMW can fix this with a software update. For instance, Acura had a related issue on the MDX where the lane keep assist did not like guard rails popping into view and lead to surprising corrections. They fixed this with a software update by recall. So I would think G05 owners need to find a way to voice their concerns to get this fixed. I just ordered my G05 and first BMW so I'm not sure if BMW has a way of receiving these type of comments so one suggestion might be to file a complaint through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Maybe that will get the ball rolling.

I think the goal of Steering Intervention is to provide sufficient force preventing you from moving into a lane that might have traffic (ie not indicating or indicating but with a car in your blind spot). Problem is that the force used to prevent this situation is way to powerful when the car determines you need to correct when going straight and pings you across your lane when you weren't expecting it. The problems with the latter issue completely outweigh the benefits of having it on for the former at this point, IMO. But good news is you can just turn it off and it's a non issue. |

What are the specific steps to turn this off? I'd hate to have an issue driving the new X5 home from the dealer before I'm familiar with all the settings options. |

I don't have pictures to hand but you can find it in the Driving Assistance Menu, in the sub menus there should be a Driving Aids (or similar menu, second one down I think). This will be the area where you set how late or early you want the car to acknowledge front collision, lane departure, blind spot, etc. Within this listing is a box to check if you want Steering Intervention. The box is checked by default, simply uncheck that. There are actually 2 boxes for Steering Intervention, one for lane departure and one for Blind Spot (ie if you try and steer into a car in the next lane) You need to uncheck the first one for sure but can do both to completely disable the Steering system. You can leave the radio buttons on to your liking, as these will still allow the steering wheel to vibrate (you can set the power of the vibration in a different sub-menu, the last one, can't recall it's title).

FYI folks - this feature (like many) is tied to a specific driver profile and key FOB. We disabled this feature immediately at delivery after reading several stories here. Long story short, my wife was driving today with our backup key FOB and the lane departure intervention kicked in when she wasn't expecting. Turns out we did not disable it for the second key FOB. If you are disabling this feature be sure to do it for both key FOB's!

On top of this, people borrow my car from time to time (second key fob) - a feature like this would be completely unexpected. BMW really needs to rethink this implementation. It should default to off on both key fobs. |

I don't have the G05 yet. Week 15 build. So I don't know how it is implemented but on the F15 you had profiles in the car and you assigned keys to profiles. So both keys could have the same profile or not. So make sure you turn it off for all profiles regardless of what key is being used.
I hope it works like this in the G05. My wife and I use the same key but change profile in the car when we start it so all settings are the way we want it.

I just returned from an G05 test drive. I almost ran into a bicyclist due to steering intervention!
I recommend you disable steering assistance as soon as you get this car! When trying the Active Lane Keeping Assistant, it was unable to take a turn and ran into the other side. While all these features are great and will get better over time, it goes without saying that we should always be alert and pay attention to the road when driving. Stay safe out there! |

Yes you can. They are independent of each other.
