Tire and rims protection

Is there a way to add insurance after picking up the car?

Probably not. If they do, they'll make sure they inspect those rims and tires.

JRA0113 was able to add tire/rim protection post-sale (even after he popped on with a nail).

See his thread/discussion on it here: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...3#post24077043

The warranty is by bmw or a private vendor?

I went through the dealer but looking at the paper work it looks like they use a 3rd party. You could possibly go direct i am not too sure? Anyways, give your dealer a call and see if they can do $1900.00.

here is the website for the company my dealer goes through.

I know for a fact my wife will curb check her rims at some point so for me it is 100% a fact of life and necessity to pay for the protection.

Did they give you anything in writing about what's covered and what's not covered

We were quoted around $1,800 for a zero deductible third party tire and wheel warranty. This is in Florida where we don't really have pothole problems so a similar warranty in the NE could be more expensive...YMMV.

I was told there was a BMW branded option for more money and a $50 per claim deductible. I think there was some sort of lifetime limit on the BMW warranty too whereas the third party was unlimited.

Not sure if these warranties are wheel specific, but we have the 20" 738 wheels.

Exactly the question... In my case found that the policy covers road damage to tires and wheels but not curb damage.. Not worth the money for me.

so here is the thing

when you buy wheel and tire insurance

first option is cheaper and only covers bent/cracked wheels and tires

second option is priced higher but covers bent/cracked wheels and tires and cosmetic issues with the wheels(curb rash, etc.)

every bmw dealer starts the price at around $2,995.00 when you go to do the final paperwork
but that price is negotiable.

for my X6M i was able to get them down to $2000.00 tax included/ with cosmetic coverage
some have gotten it cheaper but without cosmetic coverage

and believe me that $2000.00 paid itself a year ago

What is the duration and miles limit on the tire and rim protection warranty? For E.G. on my Audi Q7 it is 7yr/70K miles and I paid $1000 for it in 2016.

Anyone try something like this to protect your wheels? Curious if this actually works.

I paid $1050 at my dealer in South Florida. It will absolutely guarantee that I experience zero flat tires or rim damage. It has something to do with parallel universe theory I believe.

You guys must have some seriously bad roads (and they are bad here in MA) but if I paid 2 grand on every car I have owned for wheel and tire insurance, I would be out like 20 grand and I have probably paid less than $1000 in that same time for wheel/tire damage. It is insurance and that is all, so most people have to spend more for the coverage than the cost of repairs for it to work out - wheel is 600-800 bucks tire, 300 ish (maybe a bit more with the 22's) so you have to destroy 2 wheels and tires to even break even and if you don't totally destroy them, you can fix any bent wheels and refinish for a few hundred (which is what they will do, they won't replace unless destroyed). Personally I think it is a waste of money unless you are going through 1 or 2 wheels and tires wher you live every year. Now if you paid 1000 like Charles549 might be worth the money just in case but 2k or 3k is hard to get your money out of.

Will your dealer sell to someone from out of state? If yes, please give me the contact details.

My dealer wanted some 2500 for it. 1200 was the max I was ready to pay and he refused. I ended not buying it.

Fort Myers BMW is where I bought my X5. This is a Sonic dealership, large corporate chain of car dealerships. If I understand correctly they don't usually offer the BMW branded tire and rim insurance but instead offer tire and rim insurance through CNA National Warranty Corporation. They said it was a much better deal and after seeing what you guys are reporting I believe them. Btw I looked at the sales contract and I actually paid $1099. A few years ago it was about $500. Of course I didn't get it then and had four ruined tires in three years.

usually two options

36 months or 60 months

when you lease you will get the 36 month
when you finance the 60 month option is better

I plan on doing some after market powder coating to the 20" 738. Do you think that will void or alter the wheel protection package?
